I know we haven’t covered the HP TouchPad much on AndroidSPIN. It has been covered to death on so many sites that we felt it best not to bore you with to much repeat info. This news however, is extremely important. The simple back story goes like this, HP discontinues their WebOS platform, the TouchPad goes on sale everywhere for $99, A $2100 bounty is up for grabs to the first person or team to port Android to it. Pretty simple story that doesn’t need much explaining. The latest news to hit the world involved some people getting their TouchPads with Android 2.2.1 already preloaded to the device. That was a complete shocker and a pleasant surprise at the same time.
Granted it is only Android 2.2.1, but if they can get that working perfectly, expect updates to hit the device in the form of ROM’s in no time. Did anyone else pick up one these devices yet? Was it simple because it was inexpensive, had decent specs and you wanted Android ported? I really wish I would have picked one of these up now.
