There are thousands of games on Android these days and you’ve probably heard of most of the best games like angry birds, fruit ninja and others but there are a good many excellent games which go under the radar for one reason or another. I’ve tried hundreds of games in my years with Android and have around a hundred on my phone at the moment. So here are a few of those undiscovered gems which you may not have heard of laying about in the Android Market.
Though it has a good few thousand downloads on the Market it’s not a widely known game. This game is basically world of goo but with monkeys and bananas, I would not call it a copy as it plays differently, but is just as much fun as world of goo. Your mission is to build wooden structures to deliver your monkey’s to the goal and collect bananas on the way, the more bananas you collect the closer you get to the gold medals and gold medals are essential to unlock new levels. The graphics are nice and colorful and look great on larger screen. The music and sound effects are pretty descent too.
With under 5,000 downloads, this is one of the rarer gems that for some reason isn’t getting picked up. The graphic presentation is not the best and, to the experienced gamer, it may seem like nothing more than an Arkanoid clone. However, if you take a look under the hood you will find a great brick breaking game with some nice power-ups and the perfect pace for a quick game in the tube or on the toilet. The thing that makes flick it stand out is that you’re not trying to move some paddle around to bounce the ball, instead you use your finger to flick the ball up in the direction you want it to go. At $0.99 you have to give it a go.
I love original puzzle games and Frenzic is pretty original. Frenzic is a great game that can be fun in small patches and keeps the challenge up the longer you play. The basic aim of the game is to pop the slices of your ‘pie’ into one of six holes, when you have filled a hole it disappears. The difficulty is trying to get the highest score by getting all 6 pieces of the same color. It can get pretty frantic and, whilst not for everyone, it is still worth a play for sure.
Qbism HD is another great puzzle game which I am extremely surprised is not more popular. The aim of the game is to slot your cubes into a certain ghostly shape in a 3D play space. The first few levels are very easy and the difficulty curve is very relaxed and well paced. There are no upgrades, power-ups or special items just the cubes and your brain. It is a great game for relaxing with and will never make you feel stupid. It looks really awesome on a tablet too.
Ooops, yet another puzzle game. I really can’t help it and according to a recent survey most people love to play puzzle games on the move too. Chroma Circuit is a pretty short but also challenging game. Your objective is to line up the shapes so that they are all touching each other with the same color. The first few levels talk you through the different features and then it gets gradually more complex until you’ve sat rotating pieces for hours. The game also has colorful and crisp graphics and very satisfying sound effects. This game is available on the market for $0.99, but you can also play it for free via the Kongregate Arcade, personally I prefer the market app version as it runs much more smoothly.
