Does GO Launcher EX have what it takes? Yeah I think so…

24

So many launchers, so little time. The unique beauty about the Android OS, is the splendid ability to customize the phone, where it turns it from the ugly girl with glasses who likes to paint her fegs, to the hot girl dancing in the red dress.  So with LauncherPro and ADW leading this pack, GO Launcher EX, I think, stands on its own.

Now I was a long, long, looooong, user of LauncherPro. When the launcher hit the market, it turned my old grandpa phone the G1 into a youthful young twenty- something year-old again.  It kept getting update after update where I couldn’t wait for the next and WHAT?!?! WIDGETS?!?!  Now your speaking my language.  I can basically have sense widgets without having sense. Marvelous.  And yet on that note, Mr. Federico hasn’t really updated his beloved launcher in a couple of months.  A single tear rolls down my cheek as I think of giving in to the temptation of cheating on this launcher.

So in  comes GO Launcher EX, which started as GO Launcher, but acquired the “EX” because of  ITS EXCELLENCE!!!, maybe, but I was instantly drawn to it by all the features it had as well as the features that were similar to LauncherPro, such as the scroll dock.

The themes! Oh the themes, were a big factor because I was trying to keep my Honeycomb look to my not so Honeycomb phone so when I immediately downloaded that theme, I was more impressed. The quickness of this launcher is pretty amazing. You zip through the home screen at turbo speed and with enabled looping you can just keep scrolling one way which I did for one minute straight before I came out of my trance and wondered where I was. What really sold me on it was the app drawer. The many different transitions into the app drawer are all very sexy. I had a difficult time picking which one to use which GO Launcher EX has that covered for you indecisive people by setting it to random. By doing this, it changes each time you open the app drawer. Its like Christmas morning everytime you open it! This function can also be enabled in the homescreen transitions, and the app drawer icon transitions. Wait, app drawer icon transitions???   You got to be kidding me. Yes, icon transition effects. This turns going through your apps into a party on acid. The different 3D transitions are just amazing. This had me sold right here. I couldn’t resist this and even there was a lump in my throat as I removed LauncherPro from my phone, I knew it was all going to be okay.

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, as we say, so picking a launcher can be pretty hard. Between the head honchos, LauncherPro, ADW and GO, to the newly added QQLaucher Pro  and Regina 3D Launcher, someone can go monkey crazy trying to choose one.

I recommend GO Launcher EX for its features and quick transitions. GO Launcher EX updates more frequently and is only getting better. So if you feel like staying up late nights staring like a zombie at your phone as you swipe your finger back and forth, choose GO Launcher EX and it’ll satisfy that sick desire.

Started using Go Launcher since last Friday and love it!  I do not miss LauncherPro.  One slight annoyance i came across is when i take my Droid X from the charging dock, the wallpaper is stuck on the widescreen orientation.  I found no way to fix it unless you restart the phone.

Same here. I used to be a Launcher Pro fan. I even paid for it, eventhough I don’t really use its widgets, just to show my thanks to the developer. But it started becoming stale because of lack of updates.

I switched to Go Launcher EX about 2 months ago and have been loving it!

I am going to have to be the lone dissent.  I tried several different launchers including this one and I keep going back to Zeam.  I love it and would not use anything else.

I’ve been using Go Launcher EX when it was just GO Launcher. It offers functions for free that others only offer on paid vers1ions.
    Absolutely love it

My favorite (and really only required) feature of LauncherPro is the ability to change the row/column resolution. I’m running 6 rows by 5 columns (of icons). Do any of the other launchers provide that option? I really really hope Ice Cream Sandwich allows that capability when it arrives this Winter on my Nexus Prime :)

i just wish Go Launcher EX would add the 3D vertical scroll to the app drawer..  That’s the ONLY thing i miss from LancherPro..

But I’ve been using Go Launcher EX for a LONG time and loving it everyday..
Not to mention that Go Launcher’s Calendar widget is one of the best calendars i’ve used.

I also use Go SMS Pro
    and Go Contacts EX

both are from the GO Dev team..

    Very talented group!

App Drawer Settings > Scrolling Orientation > Vertical

Effect Settings > Vertical Scroll Effect > Waterfall
That is pretty much what I believe you are talking about.  It falls off like a cube at the bottom as you scroll.Personally I always used vertical scroll until I started using GO.  It just has so many useful features with horizontal and the cool animations too.

This is the best and smoothest launcher I have used.  Not quite the customizability in some areas as LPP or ADWEX, but definitely runs smooth on every device I have tried, even the OG Droid, where ADW and LPP would lag, GO does not.  And it looks awesome.
