Sony Announces Xperia ARC S – 4.2″ Display and packing a 1.4GHz Snapdragon Processor

I have been wanting an Xperia ARC since I first got to touch one at CES2011. Something about the device just gave me chills. I just felt right and seemed to function great. Since I missed the boat on getting my hands on the original ARC, I now have something else to set my sights on. Sony Ericsson just announced its latest flagship device, the Xperia ARC S.

This new device is sporting a 4.2″ LED screen with Sony’s “Reality Display” technology. A 8.1 MP camera with 3D and 2D sweep panorama photography, which is supposed to allow for full 3D effects when hooked up to a 3D TV. We can’t forget to mention the 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor.

“Nikolaus Scheurer, Head of Product Marketing at Sony Ericsson said: “Xperia™ arc S is the fastest and most entertaining Xperia™ to date and it clearly demonstrates how the Xperia™ family are the best smartphones to experience great entertainment services such as Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited.”

The device is reportedly 25% faster than its predecessor and packing Android 2.3. Not much else is know as of yet, but I am certain more information will become more readily available. The rumors have this device pegged for an October release, much like all the other major player device in the industry. Sony hasn’t given any indication other than “later this year”.

Looks to be pretty interesting. I have always loved Sony Ericsson’s more recent devices. With a little kick in the pants from the CPU, this could give the Samsung Galaxy S II another interesting competitor. What I am most happy about though, is how many devices we should see in October that could help keep Android on track and out sell the iPhone 5.
