Toshiba still at it, announces a pair of 7-inch Thrive Tablets

The only thing that really irritates me in the world of technology is the lack of marketing that other carriers either dump into product promotion, or the lack of consumer support. If I asked you, ” Who makes Android tablets?”, what would your response be? Motorola and Samsung most likely. They are the two largest manufacturers out there that have put their name on some great tablets. The only issue I have with that is you often don’t know anything else really exists. I’m not talking about Chinese knock off devices that are sub par and a good way to waste your hard earned money. I mean companies like ARCHOS, LG, HTC, ASUS and even Toshiba.

Yes, Toshiba makes a tablet and a pretty decent one I might add. On Tuesday Toshiba announced their latest tablet to the world, the Thrive 7″. With the bigger guys all headed into 8.9 and 10.1 inch screens, I still feel there is a great market for a 7″ version of a tablet. It is easily pocketable, very portable and gives you plenty of viewing area for Movies and games.

The Thrive 7″ boasts all the same connectivity options as its big brother, offering USB, HDMI and SD card support. Being a smaller version also means that those connections are all smaller versions too. Touting a mini USB and HDMI, and supporting Micro SD cards.

The device is packing a Tegra 2 chip set, 1 GB RAM, Android 3.2 Honeycomb and a 1280 X 800 resolution display. It also sports a 5mp rear facing camera with LED flash and a 2 mp front facing camera. This little brother to the original Thrive will come in two variations, a 32GB and a 16GB versions. Neither of which have a price tag attached to them at this point, but considering Toshiba just lowered the price on the 10″ Thrive, both of these could be coming in at a very reasonable price tag. The current rumor is pegging the 16GB between $379 and $399, while the 32 GB is said to be between $429 and $449.

The Thrive 7″ tablet is scheduled to be launched an available some time in December. This might make a more affordable tablet option for the holiday season.
