Rumors are one thing, and then a screen shot of a landing page is another. It is pretty much impossible to deny the image you see above. We have known for a while that Google has been working on deals to help bring music to Android, legally. Giving you the ability to purchase songs or potentially even full albums from artist in a way that helps benefit them. Currently you only options for supporting musicians comes by way of advertising and premium subscriptions for services that are currently available like Pandora. If you plan to use your Google Music Beta account though, you need to upload MP3‘s to your cloud account. Although none of us will mention it or admit to it, I am willing to bet that more than 75% of all music housed on the cloud has been pirated.

We heard last week that Google might have been close to deals with some of the top record labels to bring music to Android in a legal way. Sure looks like it is just around the corner. There is another speculation running around that a user will be able to share their purchased music with a friend. Although the plan is to only allow that shared track to be playable for a short amount of time and would most likely prompt for purchase at the end of the time frame offered. That is a pretty cool idea really.

None of this will stop, or put a dent, in piracy. I can see it becoming very popular and actually doing good to make Android be more legit though. We would finally be able to rebuild a little bit of our reputation as thieves and more as contributors. I hope this all goes down smoothly for everyone involved and ends pleasantly.
