Each day we learn more and more about this beautiful device full of ICS, and now there’s a little bit more information about the screen. We learned last week that the phone’s 4.65-inch screen was a standard Super AMOLED and not the Super AMOLED plus. Not really a big deal in my opinion, the display still looks gorgeous. Well it seems that now we are learning that the device isn’t going to sport the trademark Gorilla Glass, but instead Samsung is saying it’ll be sporting a type of “fortified glass”. That’s pretty interesting but I’m sure it’ll be able to repel bullets. Okay maybe not bullets but it’ll be able to withstand the buttery of the butter-ess fingers.

hey, nice tablet. oh, wait, a phone? 4.65-inch screen in a phone? and they expect to sell more than one? hahahaha. c’mon, my 4 inch galaxy S iphone wannabe is BIG, almost too big. 4.65-inch is huge. oh well, for a sucky OS a sucky-sized phone. and yes, my phone runs android, so don’t call me fanboy. android 4 is iOS 3. i like android but i wish it could be better or, at least, good. actually it’s just good enough. too bad iphone is way too expensive where i live and palm is no more.
I think 4.65 is not so bad.. but it up to the user..
And explain why you say ICS is. IOS 3? I think your crazy tho… Intact IOS3 couldn’t even Change its wallpaper ..
true, iOS wasn’t perfect and still isn’t. but the 4.0 fonts, for example, look like the ones on iOS 3. not good. typography IS important on these screens.
also, android for devices is begging just now, etc.
it seems the iOS ppl are more focused and care more about the details that seem unimportant when they are important.
disclaimer: the android 4 opinion is based on the little that i saw and on some stuff i read from some ppl that i know, those ppl have android and iphone devices and try to be on the bleeding edge of both. so flame me if i’m wrong
Do some research .. Android and IOS are so different its not even funny..
The fonts on the screen really.. well on an IPhone your stuck with it.. on an Android you can change it if you don’t like it..
There will always be similarities between all mobile OS but IOS is junk IMO..
Think about this… IOS has less features and can not do everything that Android can. But Android does everything IOS does plus more…
Not flamming or being a fan boy.. just stating the truth. If yo don’t believe me look it up.
Live wallpapers, Widgets, customizablee home screens, ability to easily change anything from launcher to the status bar, and that’s all without rooting, and only a small list of difference.
A
true, but i’m not talking about customization. i’m talking about off-the-shelf product quality.
i don’t want to have to change fonts  and i don’t think changing them will improve the overall display quality. a regular joe user doesnt even know he can change things. they just see what i’ts there from the start.i’m a coder, i know i can change stuff and flash the system, etc. and being able to do that is a good thing but the off-the-shelf product should be as good as it can be and not just usable.
i know that the google market strategy is quantity and data, not quality but it kinda hurts knowing android could be so much better in some thing and that google (and the device makers) just don’t care.
the makers care about you until u cash in. after u buy the thing, they are gone and ur lucky if u can update ur device without flashing with some rom someone glued together in his spare time.
Seeing as the Nexus Galaxy isn’t out yet, I’d be interested to know how you think you know you don’t like the font?
I, on the other hand, have been running Roboto as my system font for my Nexus S since it was pulled from the SDK and system dumps. With personal hands on experience, I find it very readable. I can’t say with any certainty that it is easier to read than Droid-Sans, but it is a pleasant UI refresh.
I also replaced my lock screen clock font to match ICS, with a similar experience there.
I was also going to chime in on the Fortified/Gorilla Glass issue, but Bill summed it up perfectly. This is a non issue as Samsung simply isn’t using the name brand. There may be subtle immeasurable differences between the two products, but for most consumers, this glass IS Gorilla Glass.
AGAIN WITH THIS?
David, you should have talked with me first. :ÂşP
The Nexus S did not have Corning Gorilla Glass either. Its been dropped from head height and not cracks or scratches yet. I NEVER use a screen protector.Â
Gorilla Glass = Trademarked Corning name for fortified glass
Fortified Glass = Generic name for fortified glass
