Microsoft nails another OEM to the wall, soon MS won’t even have to do any work at All

It must be nice to have the ability to force everyone around you to pay you money without having to do any work. That is at least how I feel about this situation. Seems as though Microsoft has stepped in again on another OEM, Huawei, who manufactures some of our beloved Android Devices. Of course, by making an Android phone the OEM is infringing on Microsoft patents. Rather than a lengthy lawsuit and paying court fees for a case they would win, they just tell them to pay up per device. Kinda sounds like the IRS to me. No work with all the pay benefits.

The cost that most OEMs are paying out-of-pocket to Microsoft is between $7 and $15 per unit sold. The fact that Microsoft is pushing their patent weight around isn’t really what bothers me so much. Heck, if I owned a patent I would love to make people pay me for it. What bothers me is Microsoft is making more money on Android than they do on their own products without any of the extra work to attempt to make it any better. The least they could do is try to improve on the platform in some way. Just my two cents on the subject.

I worked at T-Mobile for 5 years. I was the go to guy for Android phones and training. That passion didn't stop even after my departure from the company. I currently moved up from my MyTouch 3G to a Samsung Vibrant. A lot has changed in a very short time. I look forward to all the latest and greatest every time I wake up.

Hmmm… why throw that extra money into R&D when you can just pad your coffers with it?  Seems to be a better business move to just ‘Stay the Course’ and collect taxes on these patents.  Remember, budget projections were already forecast for the year and I doubt they’ll do a revision in that department just because they’re receiving extra money elsewhere.  Maybe next year (or whenever they do their next budget analysis) they’ll add more money into their current products.
