Google Maps updates, adding live events to Places Service

0

Google Maps for AndroidGoogle keeps at it, even on national holidays. They just released another update to their Google Maps service that adds in some pretty nifty features. Although the update isn’t as cool as the 3D building update was, today’s update does give you a chance to catch events that are currently happening around you. There is now a notification added to the Places for live events that are going on nearby. Makes finding out about a concert that is underway pretty easy.

Along with the live events and notifications, Google removed the “Post to Twitter option” while reviewing places. No specific reason was given for this change, but we assume another update should be rolling out soon that will integrate G+ to the service. The new live events feature has been released as a beta function and not open to all locations. The service is available for NY, San Fransisco, Paris, Zurich and London.

Assuming all goes well, Google will roll out the service to more cities over time. Should make finding something to do locally a lot easier. If you happen to be in any of the locations mentioned, you might want to jump into your ‘apps’ section and pick up the update. Let us know how it works out and if you like it or not.

Android addict would be the two words I would use to describe myself. It’s the first thing I check in the morning, and the last thing I check before bed. I’m 30 years old, my first Android phone was the G1, shortly after its launch. I have also owned a myTouch 3G, and I have a myTouch 4G, which I am absolutely in love with. Other than Android, I’m a father, brother, college student, and almost-full-time employee at a local brewery/restaurant here in the cornfields of Iowa. If there’s anything you’d like to know, please feel free to hit me up. I’m a pretty nice guy, and I respond as quickly as I can. Thanks for stopping by!
