Samsung Galaxy Nexus Rebranded to Nexus Prime for Verizon

16

Well it is looking like part of the delays of the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy Nexus, might be because it is getting a little bit of a name change. Okay, that might not be the complete reason for the delay but this is pretty interesting folks. As you can see in the picture above, the name of the Galaxy Nexus is listed as the Nexus Prime. Oh those silly Verizon guys. They just love to keep us on our toes, don’t they?

Well I don’t know about you guys, but it is a pretty cool name. For the longest time we were all calling the Galaxy Nexus the “Nexus Prime”, so I guess we are back to calling it that again. Nothing wrong with that. What do you guys think? Do you guys like Nexus Prime? Or were you happy with Galaxy Nexus?

I don’t care what they call it long as they bring it out. Come on Verizon what’s up?

Is it me, or does that ad say s.d. under the nexus?

We’re buying a PHONE, not a NAME. Techies know when you buy a Nexus, you buy a pure Google experience. That’s the point. So call it a Nexus toaster (i.e.), we’ll buy it.

The name is important here though.  From the videos on Google’s site, you can clearly see 2 Verizon apps already on the device and you see the Verizon 4G LTE logo on the back.  If this was truly a “Nexus” device, it wouldn’t have any of this.  Nexus devices are pure Google, no bloatware from carriers or manufacturers.  This could be why it was delayed so long.  Not because of bugs, but because Verizon could have wanted to have these modifications on their models, but Google didn’t.  By renaming the device, it is no longer a “Nexus” device, therefore, it can be modded all to hell by Verizon.

So in a sense, we ARE buying a name and a phone.  If this is just another Android phone called the Droid Prime, and filled with bloatware from Verizon, I’ll take a pass and get something with much better specs instead.  This is a case where more = bad with regards to software being added.

You are a moron who has no clue what he’s talking about. Sprints nexus had bloat. Was that not a nexus too? Just totally ignore the blatantly clear NEXUS in the name because yeah it’s not a nexus. How can a phone be delayed with no release date ever said? You are just hopping on the bandwagon like the rest of the tards. Nexus is still in testing get your info straight n stop listening to stupid forums and blogs. It will be out as soon as we all sign off on the firmware. Don’t like it? Kick rocks then Verizon won’t miss you.

And you sir are a flamer…  Bandwagon?  I didn’t hear anyone else with this scenario.  How can a phone be delayed with no release date?  Look at the rest of the world.

I see your point, and, I know there are (as of now) 2 Verizon apps (My Verizon and their back-up app) currently on the phone. Not a deal-breaker for me, especially since perm root is an option. It still is a Nexus device, launching with ICS and will always be first in line for software updates from Google. Still, you do have a point, but the other carriers may do the same or worse, when they get it, that is.

There will only be those two apps from verizon. I have tbolt now and honestly i use th backup assistant because sumtimes gmail doesnt sync up all my contacts and backup assistants gets the ones that were missed. My verizon app lets you pay your bill and check minutes and data. Im grandfathered in but other people would like that so i completely understand verizons reasons for having those apps. The rest of vz’s apps are crap…no need for em at all. This will be a great phone once its out and cant wait to get my hands on it.

    799 Regular Price? WTF

  5. This is a third party ad by Best Buy. They’ve made mistakes in the past. There’s no way this phone will be called anything other than the Galaxy Nexus.

Ohhh, c’mon guys. Don’t tell me you fell for this BS!? Wont you feel stupid come release date…

Its going to be called the galaxy nexus dude. I work in a best buy mobile and my verizon rep said the nexus prime was what they were calling it when it was being tested so thats what was printed in the ad cuz best buy didnt get the memo. Best buy messed up here by calling it nexus prime…it will be the galaxy nexus.

Verizon has never sold an unlocked phone and is against it, how many wanna bet verizon locks the bootloader on this thing. I don’t think its going to be renamed the nexus prime, but if so it could be so they are able to hack it and lock bootloader.

  8. [...] the Samsung Galaxy Nexus release. Finally we are going to see the device hopefully on December 8th. Galaxy Nexus rebranded Nexus Prime by Verizon. An ad showing the name “Nexus Prime appears in the wild. At&T and T-Mobile merger not [...]
