Remember iris, the “Siri Killer” application for Android? The progress on this app has come a long way since we first reported on it, back in October. It’s seen a handful of stability and performance enhancements, but it just received an update that adds an extra edge against the competition. As of yesterday, version 2.5 is available and brings the addition of movie reviews, videos and real-time stock quotes. You can also search recipes, news, song lyrics and horoscopes.
For movie reviews, all you have to do is ask iris if you should watch a particular movie. She will work her magic, generate a review and even give you a suggestion as to if the movie is worth your time. I’ll note, I had to say, “Movie review: (whatever movie),” to get it to work, but it still got the job done. You can also ask iris to play a video for you. For example, if you say, “Play me a video of a dog chasing its tail,” Iris will locate a video of a dog chasing its tail and play it for you via YouTube. Pretty nifty, eh?
The next feature is one I’m sure all you Wall Street buffs will enjoy. You can now ask for and receive real-time stock quotes, keeping you in touch with your portfolio at all times. Are you a kitchen fanatic? Iris has something for you, as well. You can ask her for recipes and she will instantly display whatever it is you’d like to have for dinner tonight, breakfast tomorrow, or a snack in between.
Iris will also keep you up to date on all the breaking news, find the lyrics to that song you’ve had stuck in your head all day that you don’t know the words to, or give you your daily horoscope — all from your Android device.
Here’s a quick video review from XDA’s SassiBob, a tech gal I could listen to (and stare at) all day, every day:
