The Google+ app for Android just received a pretty hefty update, bringing forth a few features that the iOS version just got and a few I’m sure Apple fan boys will be shrieking about once they hear this news. Yesterday the iOS version of the Google+ app got an update that added search and high-res photo uploads. Today, we (Android users) get the same two features and a few more.
Welcome the return of auto-upload for videos, +1′ing of photos and comments, and the ability to click links to profiles and posts from within the app. The messenger app also got a bit of a polishing, bringing an experience more similar to GTalk. You can now start a conversation with someone by typing their phone number in the contact box, as well as see who is online from your circles. You can also see when they’re typing now, too — pretty awesome, eh?
Throw in a handful of bugfixes and optimization, and we’re looking at version 2.2.0.233662 (say that 3 times fast). Google also changed the app icon to match the new red version they added to the web version a while back.
