[Mod] Not a fan of circles? Turn those folders to squares on ICS

The wonderful world of Android that we all live in gives us a lot of flexibility. From custom ROMs, themes, tweaks and hacks. There almost isn’t anything that we can achieve on our devices. With more and more Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs being built and tested, someone was bound to change things up a bit. That is exactly what Evostance from XDA has done. He wasn’t a fan of the circle that was created for folders on ICS. He wanted to bring back a more square look.

He has only tested it on his device running ARHD 1.3.0 and comments on where else they might work would be greatly beneficial.

Instructions are fairly simple, but do require the use of ADB. So if that isn’t your thing then you should either take some time to learn it, or wait for another dev to make a different install method.

If you are all set to take on the minor challenge and give your folders back their squareness, head over to Evostnace’s XDA thread for files and instructions.

I worked at T-Mobile for 5 years. I was the go to guy for Android phones and training. That passion didn't stop even after my departure from the company. I currently moved up from my MyTouch 3G to a Samsung Vibrant. A lot has changed in a very short time. I look forward to all the latest and greatest every time I wake up.

  1. Gotta admit, that looks a whole lot better than circles, especially with most app icons being square. Hopefully someone gets an ICS rom going on the Epic Touch, and I can try this out.

It’d be awesome if they somehow modded the folders to work like certain ICS widgets.

Since the thumbnail on the square folder looks like the apps are overlapping, it’d be cool if you could scroll up and down between apps, from the homescreen, without having to open the folder and being able to open the app.
