Verizon’s “Post Holiday” commercial and sale leaves us wondering “Why?”

8

For those of you who enjoy commercials, Verizon has just uploaded their latest video ad to their YouTube account — one that definitely has us questioning their marketing department’s motives.

The commercial is entitled, “Post Holiday” and is a 30-second spot featuring Big Red’s after-Christmas sale. There’s only one problem though — the Galaxy Nexus is nowhere in sight on this one. Instead, why not treat yourself to a Motorola DROID Bionic for $199.99, or a Pantech Breakout for only $49.99?

Seriously, Verizon? You’re sitting on the most talked about device of the year, and this is what you give us? How about showcasing the pure Google experience for once, rather than shoving more locked down OEM-controlled devices down our throats? In my opinion, Verizon should be doing everything they can to put the Galaxy Nexus in as many hands as possible, but my opinion is just that. Apparently, Verizon has a “bigger picture” in mind and could care less about what I think.

I’m not discrediting the Bionic or the Breakout — they’re both nice devices, but I think it’s lame that Verizon is still pushing outdated devices with no concrete intentions on updating them to Ice Cream Sandwich. The whole thing reeks of fragmentation, and I’m 100% against the willful promotion of fragmentation.

On a side note, VZW is also offering a double data promotion for a limited time. The same $30 that previously netted you 2GB (yikes) will now land you a cool 4GB. Oh, how I miss the days of truly unlimited data…

Check out the commercial below:

I did see a Gnex commercial last night during Sunday Night Football on NBC from Verizon. But it was more a look at Google+ than the phone. It discussed putting your friends in circles. Although I love that approach, it confuses the regular joe customer who is already heavily invested in FB. Anyway, the Gnex is a wonderful phone and I love it. I can’t believe they aren’t trying to sell it. To me it’s because they don’t have control over the phone, it’s a Google Phone.
Hoping Google puts out their own ads.

Another to big to fail company. They don’t need a marketing strategy for new devices, they simply neuter them, put them out and rely on the reputation of their network to get folks to keep buying their devices

“I’m not discrediting the Bionic or the Breakout — their both nice devices”

    they’re = contraction of they are;
their = possessive pronoun, belonging to or associated with the people or things previously mentioned or easily identified.

    Other than that, decent article.

Might have something to do with a pipeline supply problem.

Amazon Wireless doesn’t even list the Galaxy Nexus now among Verizon Wireless android phones for order though they did a week ago.

Wirefly does list the GNex but shows a “Ships in 2 Weeks” notice.

thats cause the Nexus isnt cheap, lol, this ad is for showing “Amazing deals” at Verizon, you walk in a store however, you’ll probably be guided or amazed by the Nexus

I completely agree! You’d think they’d be a little motivated to bring the price down since it is their fault the phone didn’t become available to their customers until is was a few months old.

    also, marc – you’re a tool.

You know it’s really funny… I am a tool(?) because I expect journalistic writing to be held to the highest standards of the language it is written in? Someone that doesn’t have their work proofread before printing to the masses isn’t very wise.

How is it possible to effectively communicate an idea when the words used to communicate it are incorrect. Why have 3 versions of Two, Too, To? Let’s just use one! Who cares that their is a possessive pronoun! It is MUCH easier to write than they’re with that pesky apostrophe!

Hear is the point, maybe it’s just a mute point. But bear with me. You have to except that it is not write to loose the ability to communicate just because of laziness. It seams that a little extra mental work will allow you to decide weather a word is correct in its use. Sense most people have gone to high school and/or gotten a GED, who’s shoulder does the burden fall per say, that the language runs afowl accept journalists?
    [Phonetically correct but absolutely unreadable]

So in your last line you say ” [Phonetically correct but absolutely unreadable].” Is that in reference to what you wrote or what Tony wrote? On a personal level, if it is to what you wrote, you are correct. It is phonetically correct, but hardly unreadable to the general population. Blogs are drastically different than CNN or ABC. Perfection is sought after but due to restraints and lack of people that are willing to do this for FREE, we as well as many many other sites run into issues from time to time. I apologize if we offended you in anyway or found the article to be unacceptable due to a few misused words.
