According to a part supplier who reported to Digitimes today, the Kindle Fire shipped 6 million units for the holidays and now only have 3 million units on the way out. We know Amazon won’t make a comment of sales numbers of any sorts, so we are stuck with third-party numbers. The drop in sales is something that all manufactures plan for an expect this time of year. Although it is not the best news for Amazon, the tablets are still selling regardless. Those numbers are still expected to decline through the rest of Q1 with shipments estimated to drop to as low as 800,000 per month.
Is the Kindle Fire craze over? Hardly, we still have spring and summer around the corner. Then there of course is the back to school season where millions of parents and student will be picking up gadgets and gizmos for their first day of school.
There have been previous rumors of Amazon working on a 10.1-inch version of the tablet and we have even heard speculation of a Kindle Fire 2 on the horizon. If Amazon does plan to launch another variant or new tablet this year, we don’t expect to see it until the October/ November time frame.
