Angry Birds has long been a staple in the Android community. The game itself has seen over 50 million downloads according to the Android Market’s numbers, and that isn’t counting the 10 million downloads seen by the Angry Birds Rio installment or the 10 million downloads seen by the Angry Birds Seasons installment.

Let’s face it though, we’re starting to see some graphically-intense games popping up in the Android Market like Dead Space, ShadowGun and Grand Theft Auto III. After playing games like that, AB definitely leaves us looking for more, in terms of graphics and physics.

Thanks to a hint dropped at the Mobile Game Forum 2012 by Neil Trevett, Nvidia mobile content vice president (yep, you’re reading that correctly, I said Nvidia), we now have something juicy to speculate about on what’s ahead for Rovio, and more more specifically for the Angry Birds franchise.

“We’ve been speaking to Rovio, and they… ” started Trevett, before stopping himself revealing too much.

“Let’s just say Angry Birds can do a lot more,” he said, pointing out the game currently uses a 2D physics engine, and there’s no reason why it couldn’t use a 3D physics engine, which would be more accurate and could provide more accessible gameplay in terms of camera control, for example.

“There’s lots of things Rovio could do in terms of particle effects or volcanoes exploding in the background,” Trevett added.

After seeing some of the amazing 3D technology shown off at CES 2012, especially the Epson Moverio BT-100, the thought of a new version of Angry Birds with amped-up graphics and the possibility of 3D integration is definitely enticing. Of course, this is all just early hush-hush stuff and there’s been no official announcement about a sequel, but we’ll definitely be on the lookout.

On a side note, Android Community revealed that Rovio is currently working on four independent project, though no specifics were given.
