Gain 4.5GB of space for your Dropbox account quickly and Easily

We have talked a lot about Dropbox and other similar services in the past. With each update usually comes some new cool addition or fancy UI changes. Don’t worry, this isn’t an update to your Android app this go round. It is actually another new edition to your account that could make your life a bit easier and give you more space for free.

You can gain up to 4.5GB of free storage simple for trying out the new PC client and uploading photos and video. Sounds to good to be true doesn’t it. Well it is not. The newest PC client for Dropbox will enable a new function allowing that will sync your photos and videos from your Android phone, camera, or memory card directly to Dropbox when plugged in. Beats dragging and dropping or manually uploading them one at a time from your phone. To make testing out the new client they are offering extra storage space. For every 500MB of photos and videos upload you will receive an additional 500MB of storage. The maximum amount of additional storage they are offering is 4.5GB. So don’t thinking you can get a terabyte or anything.

If you already have your AutoPlay feature set to open a specific application when you plug your device/card/or camera into your PC you will want to head to your PC settings to adjust them first. In Windows 7 go to Start Menu > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > AutoPlay then select the drop down by Pictures and choose ‘Import pictures and videos using Dropbox’. Alternatively, you can have them all ask you every time you plug-in a device. That is what I personally do because I am never sure what I want to open or do sometimes.

People that are already using this service have some great things to report. Like renaming the photo in Dropbox and then reloading from their media source doesn’t duplicate the photo again. For Android, you need to put your device into “Connect as Disk Drive” and HTC Sync doesn’t work. They are also having success with loading pics and vids from thumb drives and eternal hard drives as well.

As for the location. Dropbox creates a new folder called “Camera Uploads.” Everything you upload from your devices will go to that folder. Once they sync up you then can access them through your Android app or anywhere else you get to your Dropbox account.

If all of this sounds pretty easy and you want to get involved and get some free storage, you will need to head over to the Dropbox Forum page. There you will find other information and the links to download the latest PC client. Enjoy!
