In our pursuit to evolve our site with the times, we often change things up. Many of you may remember our old blog roll and loved it. While our new layout and look has improved the look and feel of AndroidSPIN, we are constantly searching for ways to change things up and make thing better. One of the more necessary additions has been consistently found at the bottom of every app, game, theme or anything else from the Play Store. Those handy-dandy little QR codes that you can scan with you phones camera to be directed to the content for install or purchase. We know they were used extremely often prior to the Play Store incorporating an install option and an online market. Now that you can go straight to the Play Store on the web and install anything you want without the need to scan the QR codes, we are curious to find out how relevant they are at this point in time in Android’s evolution?
I know on a personal level, if I am reading about an app on my device I click a link to go get it. While I am on my PC I see no need to grab my phone and scan a QR code if it will just take me to the Play Store. I just click it and install it from the web.
Below is a brief poll asking for you to take just a second to click an answer. If the majority of people don’t even use them any more we will move forward and just offer a link instead of the long drawn out QR code additions. Please take a moment and answer the survey and feel free to comment at the bottom about the use of QR codes for the Play Store versus their use to access other mobile only content or offers.

Time for an update. I am the proud father of three, 2, 8, and 11. I finally just moved up from the Samsung Vibrant to the Samsung Galaxy S III...... Let me tell you, it is mind blowing. I love Android, I love tech and I love my family. Not in that order though. I work to hard, play even harder and take care of all that are around me when I can.

I find they are useful if I want to get a friend to install the app…
Don’t do it AndroidSPIN….I’m warning you. You already almost lost me COMPLETELY when you flipped and changed your entire site around so now if you do away with the QR codes I have no reason to even check your site anymore, I’ll just stick with Phandroid because their site is easy to navigate (you just scroll down and pick an article instead of having to choose “what type” of articles you want to see 1st and then actually reading the article after you select your “sub-genre”), they offer QR’s for all apps in their articles AND their website logo isn’t out of date and still celebrating the NEW YEAR! It’s been 2012 for a while now, why don’t we take down the streamers and the 2012 from the logo.
That was the reason behind the poll. We were curious. I haven’t scanned a QR code since the market let me install apps from the web. We still have the feed just under the ‘Latest news’ section. It still offers the same list of articles in the order at which they are published. The extra abilities in the site are to help people dig things out easier if they wish too. And we have been meaning to change that logo for some time. Downside is we are an extremely small team of people. As simple as a logo change might be for many people and sites, it is a matter of Simon having time to get it changed out for us. I keep reminding him though. So hopefully soon it will be switched back to normal. Thanks for your comment though. We are glad we didn’t lose you, we are doing our best to make things better how and when we can.
Hey, let me ask you a question.. what do you think of how http://htcpedia.com/ and http://www.theverge.com/ look?
No to both, we like the blog style postings, its easy, simple and not a headache with big text, little text all over the page in different size boxes, not knowing which came first. keep your style, nothin works better
