7-inch Ice Cream Sandwich “My Tablet” headed to consumers for under $150 later in April

I received the rare opportunity to speak with a source this afternoon that invited me to take a look at a prototype tablet that will soon be launching. It is not being launched by a major brand, carrier, or a major player in the industry, however that shouldn’t detour you from taking a few seconds to check it out. It will be called ‘My Tablet.’ The model I had a chance to take a look at was a pre-production 7-inch tablet.

It will feature a 800 x 480 resolution mutli-touch capacitive screen. It sport’s a 1.2 GHz processor with 512 RAM. On board memory was 8GB internal with an expandable micro SD card slot supporting extra storage for a 32GB card. There is no rear facing camera, but they have graciously included a 2mp front facing camera. The thing will run STOCK Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 out of the box. Battery life is said to be approximately 8 hours of continuous usage. As for thickness, which we all know is pretty important these days, it is on par with the LG G2X. Which is approximately 0.40 inches.

The unit I was able to play with was a pre-production model. My source states at launch time later this month (most likely April13th), we should be looking at a 1.5GHz processor, the RAM bumped to 1GB and 16GB of internal storage, making the My Tablet quit a powerfully little device for $50 less than a Kindle Fire. The over-all OS response was extremely snappy as it was at the time with the lower end version of the specs. If My Tablet pulls off a 1.5GHz chip with 1GB of RAM it is going to be well worth $150.

Additionally you can expect to find a USB port, Mini HMDI port for 1080p output along with volume and power buttons located on the side. My Tablet will be launching sometime in April, no date was confirmed to me. At the time of launch it will come in black, white, and pink.

What are your thought? I can attest that this thing was extremely snappy and handled all the apps I through at it. I think compared to the Kindle Fire, the only thing it lacks is the high resolution screen. If it were to up the screen resolution though, we would be back into the $200 to $250 range. I don’t think there is a tablet out there that can offer this much goods for such a small price tag. We will keep you up to date with launch information as we learn more.

Time for an update. I am the proud father of three, 2, 8, and 11. I finally just moved up from the Samsung Vibrant to the Samsung Galaxy S III...... Let me tell you, it is mind blowing. I love Android, I love tech and I love my family. Not in that order though. I work to hard, play even harder and take care of all that are around me when I can.

The low 512MB of RAM is an absolute deal breaker for me. I couldn’t use this product if it was free.

Not the prettiest girl at the dance but for the price and possible specs… I would be down to snag one up. This would work great for checking email and mobile docks and jammin some tunes and what not.

Gonna keep an eye on this. Thanks for the heads up and glad you got to play around with one!
