[Rumor] Nintendo’s Wii U could be powered by Android

4

So, last year at E3, Nintendo announced the successor to the Wii, named the Wii U. Its announcement was met with some excitement and some disappointment from Nintendo fans around the globe. Personally I feel Nintendo took a turn for the worse when the Wii was released. Granted I do own one, primarily for my kids benefits and so I could easily play old school classics since my original Nintendo is MIA. Now a new rumor is floating around the web sent out by an anonymous tipster claiming the new Wii U will be Android powered. This could make for a very interesting device depending on how they play their cards.

Of course there are pros and cons to this rumor. If they handle it correctly and include the right mix of Nintendo software and Android software, this could prove to be the first real usable Android on your TV experience out. This alone would provide developers a complete Android gaming console to develop better, more graphically intense games and apps for. It would have to have access to the Play Store and allow Movie rentals along with the current support for Netflix as well to really be accepted as Android powered. This could also open up the door for Nintendo to produce their own emulator apps for the system and allow for easy access to classics from all their previous platforms. Even if they made their classic games as stand alone apps to purchase through Google Play it would be huge. The whole idea has some seriously cool potential, but how they handle it will make it a hit or just another $300 box connected to TV’s that goes no where.

The idea is intriguing to me. The Wii U has the potential to go somewhere big and fast. They better not screw it up if the rumors are true in any fashion. What do you guys think? Would Nintendo Wii u with Android integration make you think twice about buying one? I may just have to keep an eye on the Wii U and see what happens.

Time for an update. I am the proud father of three, 2, 8, and 11. I finally just moved up from the Samsung Vibrant to the Samsung Galaxy S III...... Let me tell you, it is mind blowing. I love Android, I love tech and I love my family. Not in that order though. I work to hard, play even harder and take care of all that are around me when I can.

Actually, the Wii and DS are Nintendo’s two most successful consoles generating 1.6 billion software sales and a combined 250 million in hardware sales. The bad consoles were GameCube, Virtual Boy, and N64.

Its not the same market anymore, consoles are dying and such, portable gaming is struggling even with sales as they are now. Nintendo need to get their shit together, its been wayy to long since they been in the hole. The Wii was cool, when it came out, the WiiU I dont see what the upgrade is all about except for HD, its just not worth it for me. But if Nintendo is goin to be the first to run Android on their tablet then ok, then it will be worth while. Nintendo is usually the first to make leaps so lets hope they do this, They need this. Of course we know android has alot of support so if Nintendo does decide to go down this route, hopefully their open to the wide Android space. But I kinda lost hope in Nintendo anymore, always greedy and don’t want to make anything simple or ideally anymore.

Note to Nintendo…This isnt 2001 anymore, thou I miss those days. The market is different. People want better organization on the Nintendo eShops, downloadable games (which is coming finally this summer) a kick ass hardware system, and a controller for hardcore gamers
