There’s seems to be a worldwide trend about zombies lately, and this game is no stranger to that. Shoot the Zombirds bring dead birds and pumpkins to an otherwise classic gameplay.
The idea is simple, zombirds (I don’t think the term needs any explanation) fly from left to right on the screen and you have to shoot them down with arrows trying to stop them from stealing your pumpkins.
So, what could possibly make this game stand out from the thousands of games using this gameplay? Well, in my opinion, it’s the graphics. The drawings are beautiful, completely animated and the background is incredibly detailed, giving you a very dark atmosphere proving to be very immersive even on small screens.
Gameplay-wise, I’ve seen one small change from the beginning that makes this game a tad more difficult than the other of its class and that is that you have very few arrows. If you hit a bird, it gives you an arrow back, if you hit 2 birds with one arrow, it gives you 2 arrows back, and there are a few others rewards by hiting more birds with one arrow, but you get the idea. That alone makes this game very hard, on my first run I only shot down one bird and I lost almost instantly for the lack of arrows, on my second game, I thought and aimed each arrow better and suffered every time I missed a bird.
The birds and the whole game in general are very attractive to the eyes, the transitions between screens and even the small pop-ups telling you how to play the game or showing the rewards are very nice designed. The loading screen is a bird chasing a very small and very cute baby pumpkin which lead to a menu screen that gives you the atmosphere of the game.
This is a free game with no ads, you can use the in-game store to purchase arrows and other things with coins, but the game can be played perfectly spending no money at all.
