Under most circumstances a carrier or manufacturer update will be announced just before it is released. Usually through a PDF in
Verizon‘s case. This time around they are sending out free message to owners of the
DROID RAZR and
DROID RAZR MAXX to let them know that the Android 4.0 update is coming soon. That is pretty nice, not as nice as seeing an OTA hit your device. Why would they do something like this though? That answer is pretty simple, take a quick read of the message that is going out -
Free Verizon Message: Your phone will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0. At that time we will remove your Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app because it is not supported on Android 4.0. Please download a new instant messaging app to use IM on your phone. Thank you for using Mobile IM!
Makes sense now doesn’t it? Seem the ICS update will be removing the mobile IM app from the device and they want to give everyone a chance to pick up a new messenger app before they get the update. It sure beats getting all excited, installing the update and then realizing it is gone. So for those of you out there that haven’t rooted and ROM’d your device and are waiting for the official update, it is coming soon. You better find a new IM app and get all your friends added in a head of time.

Time for an update. I am the proud father of three, 2, 8, and 11. I finally just moved up from the Samsung Vibrant to the Samsung Galaxy S III...... Let me tell you, it is mind blowing. I love Android, I love tech and I love my family. Not in that order though. I work to hard, play even harder and take care of all that are around me when I can.
