What the heck does that mean? It simply means that the success of the Galaxy S II, coupled with the launch of the Galaxy S III and its competitor the HTC One X, Samsung may not have over-estimated what consumers would be buying. Thinking the HTC One X was going to be a giant for HTC, and the new iPhone 5 would scoop up a large share of buyers.
The One X is definitely a great device, but with the lack of SD support and removable battery, I think many people said “I’ll wait and see what Samsung does.” We couldn’t seem to dig out any sales numbers for the One X, but we are sure it has done well. The lack of reports on how well, or how unwell, is a bit concerning for HTC. One report we found on ITProPortal, stating that April revenue after the One S launch of devices was only up slightly from March and still 20% lower than the previous year.
On the Samsung side of things, analyst have lowered the expected number of shipments to be 8 million by the end of Q2. They did however raise the projected sales for Q3 to 15 million devices.

The single number 1 reason I didnt even consider the HTC, was SOLELY due to no removable battery. As someone who lives on XDA, and has probably reflashed my Captivate’s ROM hundreds of times. I have had the need on countless occasions, to pop out the battery due to a boot loop or something has frozen. If I dont have that option anymore I wont even consider the device in my new lineup.
I think, considering that XDA(alone) has 4.5 million registered users, it appears in this area HTC did not take them into account. I DO however think Samsung has. Mainly due to keeping all of the hardware the same across the US carriers, it seems to welcome the modding of the SGSIII as one entity. So we wont see issues that plagued the Vibrant but not the Captivate. We will be able to have all of the dev’s from all of the carriers working in the same pool.
I’m REALLY excited for this, and cant wait till AT&T has them, so I can get mine!
Sadly, I can’t think of a good reason to spend several hundred dollars on a dual core phone that won’t support tmobile LTE next year. Better luck next time Samsung. I guess my galaxy S1 will have to hold me over until the quadcore LTE phones come out (hopefully with 2 gigs of ram!)
