LG introduces the Optimus Vu, their first high-end “phone/tablet hybrid”

2

There was talk a while back about the Samsung Galaxy Note arriving on the Verizon network. No one knew what to expect from Big Red. The plan was that either a new device would come out at a later date, or Samsung would just switch the radios.

In this case, it seems like Verizon adopted LG’s views, on a phone/ tablet hybrid device. And they have collaborated to bring the enormous, Optimus Vu.

Now on paper, it really doesn’t seem like the Optimus Vu is “large”. In fact it is measured at 5″, only .2″ larger than the Galaxy S III. However its 4:3 display aspect ratio, makes it seem like “alien-derived” hardware.

Anyway, here are the specs for this “bad-boy”:

  • A 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • 5″ (1024×768) HD IPS display
  • 32GB of storage, and 1GB of RAM memory
  • Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 8MP rear, and 1.3MP front facing camera
  • Stylus capability

Telling by the looks of it, this will be one sweet device. I am also happy to see the upgrade from Gingerbread, since te device was last seen at Mobile World Congress.

Of course this will be sporting Verizon’s 4G LTE network. And from the original words of the old Verizon spokesmen, “Can you hear me now?”… the Optimus Vu will advertise, “Can you see me now?”

What do you think of this “mega-phone”? Is it on your early holiday wish list? I would love to hear your comments.

I currently sport a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, with the addition of JellyBean.
