Well this is a pretty funny story fo us Android fanboys to gloat about. Seems a report came out not to long ago stating that AT&T employees were being instructed on trying to sell people Windows and Android phones, over selling them iPhones. To add to that, they were also told not to buy iPhones for themselves. That cracks me up, but you must ask the question, why is this?
I guess there has also been numerous experiences stating that AT&T reps were really pushing for them to not to get the iPhone. Someone also stated that they know someone who works at AT&T, and they mentioned that they get more commission for selling Android phones. Well there is the twist right there. These reps know something we don’t? Well it seems that Verizon employees have now been instructed to do the same practice. Here is a testimony from Jeff Stern when he set foot in a Verizon store:
- “They released the iPhone 4S because Steve Jobs died so they just threw in a couple more features and pushed it out.”
- “Apple’s servers are really small and when you use Siri it normally redirects to Google anyway.”
- “Every icon looks alike on your homescreen and it’s really hard to find applications.”
All things I heard salespeople say in the 40 minutes I was there. I’m certainly not an Apple fanboy. I was in your store to buy an Android phone. But you’re really trying too hard to steer people away from the iPhone and I’m not the only person that’s noticed it.
Sad, but all those statements are absolutely true about the iPhone. Now Stern was in fact visiting this Verizon store to check out the Galaxy S III, but could not believe how the rep was pretty much destroying the image of the iPhone. He then wrote a letter to Verizon stating, “You’re making it sound like Apple isn’t a mobile competitor anymore and your unanimous disdain for their phone doesn’t help the trust between you and I.” Guess Stern is not much of a fanboy because any one of us would have just been bad mouthing the iPhone just as much as the rep. Evil we are.
So what do you guys think? Anyone out there work for either Verizon or AT&T that can verify any of this? Let us know what you guys think.

What I think is that both carriers got tired of people returning their piece of poo iPhone after they had it for a week and realized they fell into the gears of the hype machine
My take on all of this from verizon’s point is the fact it isn’t 4g they want to free up 3g spectrum. Commissions are higher for 4g phones that 3g phones.
I think they want to sale the other phones because they make more $ on them. When someone buys an iPhone they are satisfied, and they don’t buy anything else till the new iPhone comes out. The the other phones are annoying, frustrating, and people think, “Theres got to be something better then this, oh i know the S2 just came out, Ill get that!” Two months later they’er saying, “It’s a good thing the S3 is coming out, because, I got so mad the S2 that i threw it against the wall and ever since it won’t go online at all.”
“You’re making it sound like Apple isn’t a mobile competitor anymore” uhhmm have u Seen the numbers against android? Of course there not a competitor anymore have u seen the latest batch of android phones. Android has more features and then some
Yeah i really wanted a iphone but the salesman really pushed me to get this piece of crapp droid razr
although i hate motorola garbage arent u enjoying the faster speeds u will NEVER get with the iphone also the bigger screen, the customizability, more free apps etc?
and now see things like this happen, you got a crappy android phone on a crappy network and now your lead to believe android is just bad, when in reality its not, and yes thats a problem, crappy phones put bad tastes into peoples mouth.
I can confirm that commission is higher on the non-Apple products. I work for AT&T and most of the reps I know carry android and wouldn’t carry anything else.
Here’s some truth for you: Apple charges Verizon $250 for every iPhone that is sold. That is on top of the already ridiculous subsidy paid for the device. Plus, 3G phones cost more to run on the network. Put all that together and you have a device that costs too much to sell. Not all droids are pushed, just 4G. If a customer can buy an S3 on 4G and enjoy all the features of a high end Android AND it’s better for the company you’d better believe there will be a push.
I think it’s absolutely hilarious. I also think that some of these carriers are finally taking notice that the sheer business models of these manufacturers has Apple in a bind. You have multiple companies releasing multiple level android devices ALL YEAR LONG vs. a singular company that releases 1-2 mobile products annually. The money is with the android manufacturers, as they ALL are generally in the same ecosystem. For this reason alone, Apple is set to ultimately fail. This is why they’re throwing out so many patent suits. They know it, we know it. So AT&T and Verizon (if this is true) would be very smart to push Android products. There are simply more choices of them, increasing the chances that a consumer would buy them- thus more revenue behind it.
It has taken everyone this long to realize that you never actually own an iPhone no matter how much you pay for it, apple will always jump up and down and cry in court once you actually try to get some use out of the POS.
Funny story. Android rules no doubt.
Funny story. Android rules no doubt
First off I have stated in my articles that I am not a fanboy of any brand, and I dislike the idea of people playing that part, so shame on any of you that do. With that said, I do lean towards Android, because it offers more of what I want, but thats the only reason.
Now to your article.
First all of those “reasons” are pure bullshit! I can say this as an owner of an iPhone 4s along with every Nexus phone released to date.
Secondly, you are all missing the bigger picture here.
Carriers will ALWAYS lean towards Android, because they have more control over the product than, they do with the iPhone. ie Apple dictates terms to the carrier, where as the Carrier dictates terms to Android OEMs, short of Samsung, who just recently remembered it has a pair of balls between its legs.
The iPhone was important to the carriers for bringing people into contracts, simple as that. We are now starting to see smartphone sales start to stabilize and the growth seen last year at this time, is seen to be slowing down. That means that the carriers are less likely to attract new customers, just because of a smartphone model. Not to mention that they do have the model in question, should a customer REALLY want it.
How is this not obvious?
might be AT&T and VZW finally realized the iphone sucks….:)
