There have been many angry customers out there that were planning to, or at least wanting to, use
Google Wallet on their Verizon branded
Galaxy Nexus. Sadly that wasn’t a possibility. That didn’t stop our crafty Android developers from hacking their way around it. No longer will you need some crafty hacked apk file to install Google Wallet on your device though.
According to Engadget, they have been able to confirm that Google Wallet will indeed install and work just fine. They weren’t able to find it with a Play Store search, but with a direct link to the app in the Play Store all things were a go.

Now, it doesn’t seem it is as easy seems though. Engadgets comment section is loaded full of people having issues installing it from the Play Store on their devices and through the web version. While we don’t have all the details from individuals, it seems like this is strictly working for stock devices that are unrooted and not running any custom ROM’s. So those of you sporting a hacked up and ‘special’ device are still going to have to use some sort of pieced together version of Google Wallet.
Some of this could change over time, and most likely will. Since the FCC stepped in on the C Block tethering ban, it shouldn’t take too long before Google Wallet gets full access across the boards.
For anyone on a stock device who want to give it a shot feel free to try by scanning or clicking the QR code below. Let us know how it goes and please, be a bit more specific then, “Doesn’t work.” Like perhaps if you are rooted, what ROM you are using ect.
Application: Google Wallet
Developer: Google Inc.
Cost: FREE

Time for an update. I am the proud father of three, 2, 8, and 11. I finally just moved up from the Samsung Vibrant to the Samsung Galaxy S III...... Let me tell you, it is mind blowing. I love Android, I love tech and I love my family. Not in that order though. I work to hard, play even harder and take care of all that are around me when I can.

I am running it from the direct Play Store link on the CM10 preview build from last week without issue. I still get the usual unsupported banner across the top but the app still works as expected.
Same thing as the guy above
I have Verizon Galaxy Nexus, stock Android 4.0.4, unrooted, not running any custom and i cannot install google wallet…
This is my first last phone i will have with verizon… Nexus S devices already have Jelly Bean, and i dont because of verizon… i hate this company!
I tried just about everything, but it still tells me my GNex is not an authorized device.
I have a stock Galaxy Nexus running ICS 4.0.4. I will try to reboot and see if that works.
Link to play store installed fine and is working for me. Running cm9 7-26 nightly
Yes it works if you install if you have the play store link directly. I simply went on my verizon galaxy nexus to wallet (it told no you can’t install), then I shared the link to my gmail, then on my laptop navigated to that page, choose install to verizon nexus and celebrated.
Diatribe: Any corporation that tries to compete through closed practices will ultimately loose out of business, those that compete through open practices or what I prefer to call it “cooperating” will survive and thrive. Google for the most part cooperates, most other companies cooperate much less. Next time my wireless contract comes up for renewal I will not be signing with any company that doesn’t cooperate with open practices, hopefully Google Fiber or Google Wireless or other similar services will be available. Things are moving exponentially faster, you must adapt. This is the way of the future corporations, evolution via natural selection by the consumer base, and the consumers who are human select/want one thing…freedom.
I scanned the QR code and this is the message I’m getting from the Play Store:
“This item isn’t available in your country or by your carrier”
When accessing via qr code, the play store says item not available in my country or carrier. I have a stock Samsung nexus from Verizon running ICS. I called Google and they said it was locked by Verizon as of 8/3.
Stock, unrooted Verizon Galaxy Nexus and I’m getting messages on the web and mobile Play Store that it is not available for my phone. So frustrating. Any fixes???
Very frustrating. I know it went through for some people. There is a modified version on XDA somewhere.
