Samsung Galaxy Note 2 rumors surface about flexible AMOLED Screen

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a fairly hot topic, not as hot as the Galaxy S III was though. Much like the S III, there isn’t much for anyone to go on. We all believe that Samsung will be making the official announcement of the Note 2 at their unpacked event planned for August 29th. The invite email image was pretty telling on that front. So that still leaves us plenty of time to speculate and play the usual rumor mill game. The latest breaking rumor comes in from the usual over seas Korea IT Times site that has been known to fuel plenty of rumors when it comes to Samsung.

The latest in gossip points to the Galaxy Note 2 housing a flexible AMOLED display. Before you go jumping in on either side of the rumor, lets talk about possibilities. Just because the screen will be flexible doesn’t mean you and bend your phone. Rather it is more likely that the screen would be placed inside the device at a slight curve to offer better viewing angles. You probably won’t even notice the bend, if it is even used at all. Remember, this is all rumor talk.

Samsung has been working on flexible displays for a while now. We have seen some pretty slick-looking demos of them in action in the past. Where the time of the Note 2 and the flexible display becomes a bit more possible is the date. August 29th was the date that Samsung is said to be announcing the device. It also just so happens that the International Meeting on Information Display is scheduled from August 28th – 31st. Where two main topics are to be discussed,  ‘AMOLED’ and ‘flexible displays’.  Some of you might also remember a comment made late last year by Samsung spokesman Robert Yi, “The flexible display, we are looking to introduce sometime in 2012, hopefully the earlier part.  The application probably will start from the handset side.” Obviously the earlier part didn’t happen.

Could the Note 2 be sporting a 5.5-inch flexible screen? It could. It would sure make a nice little label for advertising and writing on a box. Will it make a major impact on users? We don’t think so. It will be one more thing to add to your bragging rights list. Now, when they add a second screen that pulls out from the side and offers up a 10-inch display, dual-monitor style, then we are starting to talk amazing new tech. What do you guys think? Let us know.

Time for an update. I am the proud father of three, 2, 8, and 11. I finally just moved up from the Samsung Vibrant to the Samsung Galaxy S III...... Let me tell you, it is mind blowing. I love Android, I love tech and I love my family. Not in that order though. I work to hard, play even harder and take care of all that are around me when I can.

I think Apple will allow it to launch, then get it banned. Then as Samsung struggles to get it back in the market, Apple will patent the idea. When Samsung finally gets it back in the market, Apple will sue the hell out of Samsung for patent violations. LOL!

I think its just going to look like a bigger S3 with a stylus. All this flexible screen mumbo jumbo is bogus.
