Well, now you can be that guy and show the prosecutor what you are made of in a new game released today by 1337GameDesign. Appropriately titled Devils Attorney. The small little description the developer offered up made it sound cool, but it was the YouTube video that made us go, “Sweet!” So before we even start talking about this game, you need to pump yourself by watching the video first.
Ok, so on to the game since the trailer doesn’t show you a whole heck of a lot. Luckily there is also a mini game play trailer available too, but you will have to wait to see that one at the bottom.
The basic story is this, you are Max McMann, Attorney at Law. You live in a rundown, barely livable apartment and have your law office, which is in just about as good of shape, right next door. It even has a neon ‘OPEN’ sign in the window that pulses on and off, with the appropriate sound as well. The alcoholic bum sleeps at the foot of apartments stairs and the buildings are riddled with graffiti. This is when you know you have a true shady and shift attorney. It is a magical atmosphere. You take on cases that no respectable attorney would take and try to get the not guilty verdict. After all, they are paying you hundreds of dollars.
Each case that you have available is in your office. Some rounds you only have one case to choose from, other times you will have multiple cases to choose from. Once you decide which case you want, you are off to court to defend the client. The opening statements before each case are absolutely hilarious and brilliant. The rough and tough prosecutor says something and you, being the shady and sly attorney, make witty come backs that will keep you laughing. Then court begins.
Here is where the game gets a little more interesting beyond all the great humor. Devil’s Attorney is a turn based strategy game at heart. With each case you will be going up against a prosecutor at the very least. There will also be evidence and witnesses. At the beginning of each round you get 9 points to use your various special and shady tactics to knock the prosecution’s case down to nothing. When you run out of points, it’s their turn to knock you down a level. Ultimately you need to keep your rating up high enough to know out all the opposing characters and evidence to win the case. Sounds easy, but it isn’t Some prosecutors have special attributes that make things a bit tougher. You have some of your own though too. Like Tamper with Evidence, Mesmerize, Interrogate and Discredit. Each tactic uses some action points and each one does certain ‘damage’ to the prosecutions side. If they take you down to 0 in your gauge at the top, you lose the case and your client goes to jail. If you can clear out all the opposition before hand then you win the case and your client is free.
The buck doesn’t stop there though. Once you win a case you get some cash. Then you can head to your apartment to spruce it up with some new stuff like; couches, stereos, awesome reto 80′s wallpaper and so much more. Let’s not forget that with each purchase comes some skill points. Either Materialism, Decadence or Vanity. The more you lean in one direction the higher those values become. Once you reach a certain level you learn new abilities to use in court. So there are two sides to the game.
The games total number of cases includes 58. You will get to see and explore 3 different neighborhoods. Go head to head against 9 different prosecutors, all with their own special abilities and attitude. If you find the game to difficult or easy, you can change the difficulty settings.
I know you are hooked now. I know you want this game. I know you can’t live without it… well, ya you could, but Max McMann would convince you otherwise if he had a chance. If you are sold on this game like we were, then by all means pick it up now by clicking or scanning the QR code below. It is every bit like the two videos above. It is totally full of win. Just be prepared to toss your morals and ethics right out the window because you need money to get that disco ball you have always wanted.
