CyanDelta Updater – The Alternative Way To Update CyanogenMod Nightlies with Minimal Package Size’s

0

So I was talking with this girl yesterday. I don’t know how it happened, but I started telling her about CyanogenMod the most infamous ROM on the planet! I broke out my Samsung Galaxy Nexus and was really getting into the zone with all the cool features it had. How amazing the battery life was with this custom kernel I flashed. I could tell she was really into me right? Then about halfway through it she stops me and says “What’s a CyanogenMod?” I was like, What? Are you serious right now Mom?” Moms are girls to you know haha!

So I broke down and explained to her that CyanogenMod is an aftermarket firmware for a number of cell phones based on the open-source Android operating system. It offers features not found in the official Android based firmwares of vendors of these cell phones. She then said, “Why didn’t you just tell me that in the first place?” I said forget it and stomped off irritated to my room in the basement. You guys all know I’m just kidding right?

Anyway so like I do every time a girl drives me crazy, I head on over to the Google Play Store to see what new apps are out that I might have missed. The app that I found, called CyanDelta, brought a huge smile to my face. I’m a flashaholic like everyone knows. Plus I don’t have very much patience. I started reading and it said, ‘Are you tired of downloading 200 MB everyday to get your latest CM nightly?’

Heck yeah I am! It seems like it takes me forever to wipe, re flash the new update and then set my ROM up the way I had it previously. My fellow flashaholics, CyanDelta lets you update your CyanogenMod ROM by downloading just a small delta file (about 10 MB to 20MB) instead of a big full zip file each time. With CyanDelta you can finally update your ROM in just some minutes even with a slow and expensive 2G or 3G connection! That right, there is a +1 in my book because not everywhere I go for work has an excellent connection. I’m all about variety and having multiple options. After trying it for a few days I feel and agree with them when they say CyanDelta is a perfect “CM Updater” and “ROM Manager” replacement, since it can notify you when new updates are available and it can also automatically install the new zips via recovery. (That is a very nice feature to have.)

Here’s a rundown of the main features:

✓ Security: all downloaded data is digitally signed by us to prevent manomissions.

✓ Recovery zip install: it can automatically reboot to recovery, install the ROM zip and other additional zips (kernel, modem…), wipe dalvik cache and reboot (requires root)

✓ Update notification: when a ROM update is available, CyanDelta will notify you!

✓ High efficiency deltas: it uses the RFC3284 VCDIFF algorithm and some magic to produce really small deltas.

✓ Supports TWRP and CWM-based recovery (but not the closed-source ClockworkMod, since it’s locked down by its author to only work with ROM Manager). If you have an unsupported recovery just manually install the zips generated by CyanDelta.

✓ Supports all official CyanogenMod ROMs and devices listed in http://get.cm
