I’ve been waiting for this… One day very soon, stores bearing the Google name will become an official thing (unlike these and shown above). The search behemoth plans on opening retail stores in “major metropolitan areas” by the end of the year where they will sell, demonstrate, and answer questions pertaining to all things Google. The plan is to have these up and running before the holidays.
Selling items like Chromebooks, Nexuses (Nexi?), and upcoming Glass are obvious, but there’s countless other possibilities. There’s already a Google online store; it makes sense that some of these items would find their way into these brick and mortar stores, but think about what else Google could do. Will they offer tech support or repairs? Will Android users be shown how to make the most of their devices? Will there be something unique for Ingress players like they’re doing in Duane Reade stores? Will there be in-person training on how to use Google search better, similar to their Power Searching course or even in-store classes of the course? Who knows? There’s not much on specifics yet, but any place where I can get a hands-on experience with new Google gadgets and buy an Ingress Resistance shirt sounds like a win to me.

[...] Google opening brick and mortar stores by end of Year [...]
Oh my! Be cool to set up shop next to the apple store. This might just be a job for me. Come to B-More, I’ll apply in a heart beat! Im excited myself
Sorry. I don’t mean to rain on Google’s parade, but if this is their new strategy, it’s time to sell Google shares. Why? Remember an obscure company called CompuAdd? They started about the same time as Dell and were growing faster. Then they got the idea that they could open retail stores nationwide to move more product. Result – bankruptcy after about 18 months. Remember the Cow computer? What was their name? It had black and white cow hide markings on their boxes. They also tried to open retail stores nationwide. What was their name again?
Gateway. For people who are scratching their heads, lol I remember going into a gateway store long ago. Never had a gateway thou. Im a DELL man myself
Google’s strength is its diversity. There’s a myriad of products and services that they can offer in their stores, so if one thing isn’t working, they can easily adapt and try something else. The problem with Gateway was they were one trick ponies, selling pre-assembled computers with support. The huge overhead required to do that alone without stores is hard enough, the added burden of more overhead for an already flailing business was bound for disaster. Google has deep pockets and a lot to offer that’s not out there yet.
If you think one of Google’s ventures will sink it entirely, I believe you’re mistaken. The stock is hovering around $793 right now with investments in everything from the search engine itself, geothermal, AdSense, fiber, and everything else they do, it would take them putting all of their eggs in the basket of their stores to sink them and that would never happen. I don’t think Larry, Vic, Eric, and Sergey are that stupid.
Right just like the Apple store, Microsoft, Google has plenty to offer, not just desktops. Plus Google would definitely pull something cool to the store. It wouldnt be a bunch of stuck up ass holes like walking into a Apple store. Phones, tablets, chrome books, Android goodies, make your own android stickers, more
