Looks like a next generation Nexus 7 will be showing its pretty 7-inch face at Google I/O this year, according to a Google analyst. Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities released a research note revealing the specs of the new Nexus 7 tablet. Here is what we might expect:

  • 7-inch LTPS display with 1920×1200 (WUXGA) resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, quad-core (the same processor in the Nexus 4)
  • 5-megapixel camera on the back
  • HD front-facing camera
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC
  • 4000mAh battery with Qi wireless charging
  • Android 4.3 – Jelly Bean

Sounds sensible enough. I figured since we saw the very first Nexus 7 tablet at Google I/O last year, the successor would show up at this year’s event. Kuo also provided a screenshot below which pins ASUS to be the manufacturers once again.

So what do you guys think? Looking forward to the new Nexus 7 tablet? Let us know if you would purchase one.

Take my money! I hope the processor will be much better than before. It’s a $199 tablet. It doesn’t have to be the best.

I would just love the HD Screen and camera.
LTE would have been great, but tethering to my smartphone is the same thing.
    I foresee another huge win!

Looks nice enough, but I would be more interested in learning more about improved connectivity. Does it have a microSD card slot? Does it have HDMI- out? There is no doubt that the Nexus 7 is the leader of the pack when it comes to 7″ tablets right now, but it will have to offer more than just a nicer screen and a beefer processor to stay ahead.Cameras are no more than ‘nice to have’s’ on a tablet; I certainly wouldn’t swap an IXUS for a NEXUS for taking photos.

      I agree. I thought the new Nexus 7 would at least have HDMI-out, that’s a feature I really wanted…

Would love to upgrade, but this doesn’t address the 2 things that bug me – memory and removeable storage. I *know* G is all about “the cloud” but good WiFi or cell coverage isn’t available everywhere.

Doesnt seem like Google is ever coming back to SD Cards

  • Ken

Can I use a pen on it? No? Not interested.

    • FILA

buy a rubber tip pen, lol

This is really a nice news that Google is planning to release Android 4.3 with a high res Nexus 7. Are they going to tell anything about Nexus 5 and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie?

    • frettfreak

Klp /5.0 isn’t going to be released for a bit. They are not going to give you any info on it. Not gonna happen.

  • chris

damn i was really hoping they would bump up the size of the screen to match the 7.9″ of the ipad mini and note 8.

  • Andre

my hopes were for a nexus 8 instead of a new nexus 7

  • davey0728

I am SO excited for the NEW Nexus 7…..I’m holding off on buying a new tablet until this comes out so I’m gonna pick up this Nexus 7 FOR SURE!!! The 1st one was amazing and this 2nd version is gonna be KILLER!

  • phil

Gutted its not 7.9″. That’s all I wished for. Sadly no longer interested.

  • Stanley

I have a Nexus 7, will it also get the 4.3 update? And what features will this update bring?
