Samsung Tab Fully Exposed at IFA

by Simon Walker on 2nd Sep 2010 -

TheDroidGuy got his hands on the Samsung Tab in Berlin at IFA.  I had a call this morning with TheDroidGuy and he's been testing, playing and finding out all the details he can on the upcoming Samsung Tab, and from all accounts, it's going be the iPad killer everyone is expecting. IFA hasn't even opened its doors yet, but Samsung is hosting a number of pre-events and the news just keeps flowing.  They even talked about a Honeycomb tablet next year. Here's a little info from TheDroidGuy: In my hand the Samsung Galaxy Tab felt both sturdy and reliable, a far distance ...

Galaxy Tab Releasing at IFA

by The Droid Guy on 1st Sep 2010 -

We are writing here live from Berlin Germany where Samsung Mobile is about to unveil the highly anticipated Galaxy Tab. This 7" beauty is the first Android tablet to head to the United States with the feature rich experience we have come to expect from high end Android phones.  Unlike the ipad which came to market as "an oversized ipod touch" or "oversized iphone" the Samsung Galaxy Tab offers a similar but unique experience to Android users. We were on hand yesterday for a private screening of the device hosted by Soon Kim, Project Manager for the Galaxy Tab. During this ...

New T-Mobile G2 Images Emerge

by Alex Smith on 31st Aug 2010 -

The T-Mobile G2 is coming and as the successor to the G1 and being T-Mobile's first HSPA+ device, this will be a huge launch for T-Mobile. Looking in the G2 system dump and seeing these images, this is obviously not HTC's Sense UI. The G2 features a "Z" hinge which easily reminds us of the G1 and although the keyboard does not look the same, it still looks sexy. The G2 is rumored to be launched on the 29th, but like everything else, details and specs could change. Via: Android Central What do you all think of the G2?

Mysterious HTC Device Headed to Verizon?

by Alex Smith on 27th Aug 2010 -

Thanks to an anonymous tipster, BGR has just received these images of a device that resembles the HTC Evo, but with a more luxurious look. This device is said to be heading to Verizon and I must say, I'm extremely jealous. The tipster didn't say if this was going to be a world phone, but judging by the Verizon roadmap, it will be. The sleek design fitted with brushed aluminum accents make this one sexy device. Anyone else thinking the HTC Merge? Judging by the looks of this device, we can see: 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash Kickstand 4.3-inch screen 3.5 mm headphone jack Front facing camera. There is no ...

T-Mobile has committed an unknown number of T-Mobile G2's in support of the Big Android BBQ. As if the Big Android BBQ wasn't already the biggest Android event of the year, this will hopefully provide some of the attendees at the Big Android BBQ event their very own, FREE, T-Mobile G2.  It's still not confirmed how many devices will be provided and HTC's production schedule may be one deciding factor, but the fact that we are expected ...

T-Mobile G2 to Feature Qualcomm MSM7x30 Chipset. What Does This Mean?

by Simon Walker on 25th Aug 2010 -

With the latest system software for the T-Mobile G2 that will be released later this year supposedly leaked today, the developers of the community are digging through the image to see what goodies might be in store. @Cyanogen tweeted the following: G2 is a brand new Qualcomm platform.. ro.board.platform=msm7x30 If this is the chipset in the G2, what does the MSM7x30 chipset do to make the G2 better than current Snapdragon based phones? We already know from a post on AndroidPolice that the following features should be supported: 720P video encoding (recording) and decoding at 30FPS Integrated 2D/3D GPU’s with OpenGL ES 2.0 and Open ...

Switch Things Up With Visual Task Switcher

by Jolie Gendel on 24th Aug 2010 -

If you're looking for something to make switching tasks more efficient, or just want to make your Android even cooler, why not try Visual Task Switcher by ESD Mobile. Instead of just showing the app icon, Visual Task Switcher displays a mini-screenshot of whatever your current tasks are and displays them for you to select at a glance. There is a downside, however. Visual Task Switcher does not integrate with other home replacement apps like ADW Launcher or  Home++; and you are limited to using one or the other. For most of us, that means we'll be sticking with the home replacement ...

My Quadrant is bigger than your Quadrant

by Jason Bowdach on 23rd Aug 2010 -

With the recent explosion of high-end Android devices hitting the market on all of the various carriers, it seems that the benchmark app Quadrant has become the 'standard' to test out and compare these new 'superphones', and to see how fast we can tweak them using mods, hacks, or other related improvements. Having just upgraded to a Samsung Vibrant myself, I too have found myself falling victim to this "benchmark fever", relentlessly trying to squeeze every last benchmark point out of my already-speedy device, through the use of optimized kernels, overclocking, "lag fixes", and other misc tweaks. With my background in repairing ...

App Review: DroidCam – Turn your Android phone into a Webcam

by Simon Walker on 23rd Aug 2010 -

Application: DroidCam Wireless Webcam DroidCam Wireless webcam has been around for a while now but I've never tried it.  If it hadn't been on the popular apps list on AppBrain, I probably would have never know about it.  I was just talking to my wife about spying on our kids in the bedroom to see what they are doing when we are not around, and how it would be fun to install a wireless webcam.  The next day DroidCam hit me in the face, so I decided to give it a try. DroidCam is a wireless webcam application that allows you to ...

Samsung Galaxy Tab Spotted in the Wild

by Alex Smith on 23rd Aug 2010 -

The folks over at Electronista happened to see the Galaxy Tab in action at a train station in Sydney. They were quick to shoot a video of the upcoming Android tablet from Samsung asking the user a few questions that confirms a few specs of the device. The unidentified user called it "awesome" and when compared to the iPad, the user described the Galaxy Tab as "different." The 7-inch display, 3G capable tablet is rumored to be running the same 1GHz processor that is in the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone. As we've seen in their inventory leak, Vodafone is currently ...

Is the T-Mobile G2 a Worthy Successor?

by Simon Walker on 21st Aug 2010 -

It's been almost 2 years since the release of the G1, the world's first consumer Android phone.  T-Mobile took a chance with Google and started a revolution that has grown and grown for the last 2 years.   The world has adopted Android with a strength almost never seen before.  It was a big gamble for T-Mobile, but it was a gamble that paid off, big time.  Unfortunately, T-Mobile took a back seat for a while and let the rest of the world launch better and better devices when they should have been dominating the Android world, but finally they are pulling ...
