Free Fonts for Your Samsung Galaxy S Devices

by Stormy Beach on 18th Aug 2010 -

In my never ending search for fun and useful things to bring to you guys, I have yet again stumbled across something new to share. Over at XDA, I found a thread by jzero88 which is a master list of APK files that, as far as I am aware, were created by users and submitted on XDA. They do not require root access to install, so all you stock users can have some goodies too. I can confirm the files work on the Samsung Vibrant version of the Galaxy S. It should also work on all variants in the U.S. ...

Samsung Captivate Camera for Your Samsung Vibrant

by Stormy Beach on 17th Aug 2010 -

I dug this nice little port from the good guys over at xda-developers. User chaoscentral has created two zip files that are easily flashed through Clockwork recovery. It will flash the Samsung Captivate's camera program to your Samsung Vibrant. Why would anyone want to do this? The UI layout is slightly different and makes getting in to change some settings a lot easier and with fewer steps. Another benefit this brings to your Vibrant includes a much faster response time when starting and stopping video recordings. Here are the instructions: 1. Copy zip to internal SD 2. Reboot into Clockwork MOD recovery 3. Flash zip 4. ...

One kick Ass Sprint Epic 4G Review!

by Simon Walker on 16th Aug 2010 -

The guys over at Engadget have written one of the most detailed reviews I've read in a while.  The Epic 4G is about to take the world by storm and take the number one spot from every other Android phone that exists.  HTC had their chance and the world kept asking for a device with a hardware keyboard. Most of the rumors and some leaked photos show us that a phone is coming from HTC, but Samsung are going to be the first to the plate with what the reviewers are saying is one amazing piece of hardware. Samsung software additions have been ...

Ownskin: Personalize And Create Your Own Live Wallpapers

by Stormy Beach on 11th Aug 2010 -

Back in July I brought to your attention an application called Ownskin by madwolfchin, which would allow you to create your own live wall papers. At the time it wasn't fully available and pretty limited, not anymore. The app is now live and the only requirement is that your device is running a version of Android that currently supports live wallpapers. First step is to go to the Android Market and download Ownskin. Second, register an account at Ownskin. Once you are all set up, you can start creating your own masterpieces to be shared with the world. There are many options for you ...

How To: USB Tether Your Vibrant Without Root

by Stormy Beach on 30th Jul 2010 -

There are many advantages to rooting your device. One of my favorite, next to switching ROMs, is tethering. It has come in handy so many times on road trips. If you're like a lot of people, (and myself for a long time) you are scared to death to make a mistake and ruin your phone trying to root.  Not a problem with Samsung Kies. It's already built in to the device, just not readily known about. As always I'm sure the carriers may plug this up on the next update that rolls out so root may be needed at a ...

CM6 UI Tweaks – Where Do I Start?

by Stormy Beach on 29th Jul 2010 -

Have no fear, the answers are here. One of AndroidSPIN's contributors, Jason Bowdach, shared a chart with the team today regarding a very nicely done breakdown of what the CM6 UI Tweaks actually do. Being a faithful Cyanogen follower since I rooted my G1, I know that all his tweaks can be a little overwhelming for the first timer. So I thought I would share some of the UI settings. You can locate them from Menu > Settings > CyanogenMod Settings > User Interface. Here's the break down: Power Prompt Lets you skip the confirmation prompt on power off. Render Effect Modifies the screen color.  ...

Samsung Vibrant Tip: Do You Need A Trackball?

by Stormy Beach on 27th Jul 2010 -

I sure do miss my trackball on my My Touch 3G. No one is perfect and sometimes moving back in an E-Mail to correct an error is painstaking if you are trying to tap on that one little spot you need to fix. There is however a solution. It's already built in so no need to install anything. While your Swype keyboard is up simply slide your finger from the 'Swype Tips' button to the 'SYM' button next to it. There ya go, not only do you get some handy dandy arrow keys but a few other options to help you ...

Clockwork Rom Manager and Recovery now available for all Galaxy S Phones

by Jason Bowdach on 27th Jul 2010 -

Like many of our readers, I've been happily customizing my new Vibrant since I got it a few days ago. I've installed all of my apps, reset all of my settings, customized all my apps, etc, etc. Although I can backup my apps and settings using Titanium Backup and other backup apps, and Google handles all my contacts, I've been feeling the need to nandroid my Vibrant setup. Now thanks to a lot of hard work from developer Koushik Dutta (twitter), we now have the Clockwork ROM Manager app and a stable Clockwork Recovery image for Samsung Galaxy S-based phones, such as ...

Livehome, Another Home Replacement Worth a Look.

by Stormy Beach on 26th Jul 2010 -

The beautiful thing about Android, in my opinion, is how truly open and wonderful it is. If you have been around the block a few times or even if you are new to Android, you should all know about home replacements. With wonderful applications out their like ADW Launcher, Launcher Pro, Home ++ or GDE, there's no shortage of replacements that give you various options that you just don't get from your stock launcher. It helps us individualize and customize our phones just a little more, based on our preferences, not a carrier's or a manufacture's. I think we can ...

Photography: Getting Textural with Samsung’s Vibrant

by Stormy Beach on 24th Jul 2010 -

Yesterday I shared with you a glimpse of the Samsung Vibrant's photography capabilities. Today, I thought I'd share some photos I took while attending a family BBQ. These were all taken with no direct sunlight available. Settings are still at max resolution and 5MP. I took multiple photos of various textures and angles to demonstrate how well the camera performs. Yes, these are Wheat Thins. It's an odd photo to take, I know. These sets of photos are more about how clear and detailed they are. Not the subject matter. Nothing more than an oil lamp. The reflection was what I noticed. ...
