by Alex Smith on 27th Aug 2010 -

Members of the Android community have done it again by gaining root access on the unreleased Samsung Epic 4G. This device is not yet available to the public, but as you can see, some lucky folks who already have the device have already done it. Those of you who plan on rooting your Epic 4G on launch day, the method already works. That makes 3 out of 4 Galaxy S devices rooted so far. Let's see if the Fascinate can meet the same fate before launch. This root method requires adb commands and the instructions are provided below. Enjoy! Motorola BACKFLIP Gains Root Access

by Alex Smith on 27th Aug 2010 -

I love it when an older device gets rooted, especially on a Friday. The Motorola BACKFLIP acquired root using the same method as the Motorola Droid 2. Since the Droid 2 root method derived from the Droid X's root method, I think we have something here. Maybe this same method will work on all Motorola devices. I'm sure there are people already working hard on that, and we'll be finding out soon. Be sure to thank Sebastian Krahmer at C skills for rooting this device, I'm sure he wouldn't mind a beer or two for his accomplishments. Via: ModMyMobile Did you just fall in ...

Root Access Gained on Motorola Droid 2

by Alex Smith on 25th Aug 2010 -

Root access has been obtained on the Motorla Droid 2. The guys over at XDA can check "root" off the list and now that step one has been owned, let's see if they can follow in the footsteps of the Droid X and get a custom recovery image on this device. Remember folks, root access does not mean that a custom ROM can be thrown on this device just yet, there is still plenty of work to be done to make this possible. This root method is said to have been derived from the Droid X method, so this should be made ...

New Root Method for MyTouch 3G Slide

by Simon Walker on 14th Aug 2010 -

@ChiefzReloaded and nbetcher have been secretly working hard to develop a new root method for the T-Moble MyTouch 3G Slide and it looks like they've done it.  The new method will work with all the current known updates to the phone. The guide is based on the exploid exploit method slightly modified to support the T-Moble MyTouch 3G Slide: After many long hours of trying to restore my phone, I have now ported the exploid exploit to the MyTouch Slide! This means that you can gain root on any version of the Slide, INCLUDING the latest OTA! However, this isn't necessarily ...

All About Root for the Samsung Vibrant

by Jason Bowdach on 4th Aug 2010 -
root

Everyone remembers how much of a pain it was to root the G1\Dream: you had to downgrade to an earlier version to exploit a ridiculous bug which interpreted everything as superuser system commands. It took 10-15 minutes, required a complete wipe of your device, and had the potential to brick if you performed the mod incorrectly. The new MyTouch Slide is still frustrating developers who are trying to properly gain root access over a month after its release. Luckily, for owners of the newly released T-Mobile Vibrant & the AT&T Captivate (soon to include the Verizon's Fascinate and Sprint's Epic 4G), ...

CyanogenMod-6 Nightly Build Ported to the HTC TouchPro

by Stormy Beach on 4th Aug 2010 -

We are all familiar with CyanogenMod by now, I hope. He and his team are probably the most widely know developers for bringing updates to phones that wouldn't normally ever see them, as well as making the OTA updates perform better. Without them, the G1 would never see anything beyond 1.6 Donut. Needless to say, they bring a lot of wonderful work  to the forefront and share with us Android fans all over the word. XDA member vatoloco just released a port of CyanogenMod nightly build for the TouchPro. It is still in an experimental state so be prepared for some ...

How To: USB Tether Your Vibrant Without Root

by Stormy Beach on 30th Jul 2010 -

There are many advantages to rooting your device. One of my favorite, next to switching ROMs, is tethering. It has come in handy so many times on road trips. If you're like a lot of people, (and myself for a long time) you are scared to death to make a mistake and ruin your phone trying to root.  Not a problem with Samsung Kies. It's already built in to the device, just not readily known about. As always I'm sure the carriers may plug this up on the next update that rolls out so root may be needed at a ...

CM6 UI Tweaks – Where Do I Start?

by Stormy Beach on 29th Jul 2010 -

Have no fear, the answers are here. One of AndroidSPIN's contributors, Jason Bowdach, shared a chart with the team today regarding a very nicely done breakdown of what the CM6 UI Tweaks actually do. Being a faithful Cyanogen follower since I rooted my G1, I know that all his tweaks can be a little overwhelming for the first timer. So I thought I would share some of the UI settings. You can locate them from Menu > Settings > CyanogenMod Settings > User Interface. Here's the break down: Power Prompt Lets you skip the confirmation prompt on power off. Render Effect Modifies the screen color.  ...

Root Your HTC Droid Incredible with the Trusty Unrevoked Method

by Alex Smith on 16th Jul 2010 -

The HTC Droid Incredible put Android hackers to the test and eventually the hackers prevailed. Unfortunately for some, the previous way to root your Incredible required an intermediate knowledge of the rooting process and patience to follow the root instructions. Unrevoked has added the HTC Droid Incredible to the list of compatible devices. The Unrevoked method still requires some needed preparations, but nothing like before. Source: Android Central *Note* We here at AndroidSPIN are unsure if the Unrevoked method will work with the latest OTA going out to the HTC Droid Incredible today. Now that the root process is easier, how many of ...

The hacker community isn't just about rooting Android phones, they don't discriminate, as this eReader has now fallen victim to what talented members of the Android community are capable of. Now this is impressive, the user Meth from SlateDroid Forums has managed to root the Android-based PanDigital Novel. What makes this even more impressive is that this device has no physical buttons. Meth described his experience, "The lack of any buttons sucks." Good job! Now, get started on some ROMs and we'll really be in business. Source: Android Guys Feel free to leave your comments below.
