App Review: Muffin Knight [Video]

App Review: Muffin Knight [Video]

With great muffin comes great responsibility. Let me get this mention out of the way quickly, Muffin Knight has taken a lot of flack since it’s release for its glaring similarities to the free independent game Super Crate Box, which was released last year on PC and Mac and is due soon on Mobile. The core gameplay is practically identical and levels are the same as are many of the weapons. That said, just because something is derivative of another product doesn’t mean that it isn’t worthy of its own review and praise for its merits, much like the whole tower defense sub genre, as long as it isn’t deemed as original. The world of Muffin Knight is a world made up of six small (almost single screen) levels that slowly fill up with enemies as you run around to collect muffins. These enemies drop down from the top of the screen and should they find their way off the bottom then they’ll re-appear at the top along with all the other creatures, but...

Netflix app updates: Almost ALL Android 2.2 and 2.3 devices now supported, sorry G2x owners

Netflix app updates: Almost ALL Android 2.2 and 2.3 devices now supported, sorry G2x owners

Have you been suffering from Netflix envy? Are you tired of installing the app only to see “Device not supported” plastered across your screen? Well, you can all start to jump up and down for joy. Netflix has released an update to their market application that gives support to ALL Android devices sporting 2.2 and 2.3. Does this truly mean that ALL devices are supported. Not a fat chance. There are still so many device running loose in the wild that there are sure to be some that still have “special needs”. For instance, I see a plethora of comments on the market stating it still doesn’t work on the T-Mobile G2x. We are also reading reports of it becoming available in the market for the Galaxy Tab10.1 though. As with all newly released updates, there maybe issues. Be sure to leave comments on the market for Netflix and let them know what isn’t working so it can be fixed. Anyone else out there still suffering from Netflix neglect? P.S. Daveloft...

New Sponsors hop on board the Big Android BBQ Train, total sponsors now at 27!

The Big Texas Android BBQ is one of those events that you have to attend if you can all make it happen. I know our leader Simon Walker will be there as the AndroidSPIN liaison and I am still trying to get my self down there as well. It is the single largest community created, yearly event, ever. Last year went off with out a hitch and had a great turn out. This year is shaping up to be quite an event. With the BBQ only a few weeks away, you better hurry and get your tickets. As the event nears closer, we just got word of some new sponsors that have jumped on board to help out. The latest additions include Verizon, Swappa, Adobe and Orbotix. That brings the total number of mobile orientated sponsors to 27! To put that into perspective, that is more than four times the support last years event had. Aaron Kasten, the event organizer, had a few things to say about this announcement - “With companies like Verizon, Adobe, Swappa and Orbotix coming on board with us, it shows the world...

Smozzy Beta: Browse the web without a data connection, sacrifice your security at the same Time

Have you ever had issues connecting to data service on your Android device via T-Mobile? Maybe they have a data outage that is preventing you from getting online but you still have cell service. Or maybe you just want to help cut your data usage down so you don’t go over your plan. The mother of all work arounds has just emerged and it is a doozy. There is a new app on the market called Smozzy Beta. The developer, Jeff Donahue, has found a way to allow all U.S. T-Mobile customers with unlimited  messaging and MMS services to leverage it for web surfing. Sounds crazy, right? Not when you get into the technical aspects of it. Smozzy is basically just a wrapper around the standard Android browser, but instead of using a data (2.5, 3, 4G) connection, everything is funneled through SMS and MMS. Whenever you click a link, instead of firing off a packet to a remote web server, a web request is instead sent to Smozzy’s intermediate server via SMS. Smozzy forwards the request,...
