Experience it Sooner Than You Think

It happens every now and again that we are approached with something new and revolutionary in the Android world, this new venture by Design Rifts is nothing short of that. Jai Romeo came to us and said he had a new idea regarding theming and theme creation, in his words “An Ultimate Theme Creation Template”. This new idea is designed to bring theming to a more centralized and easier to apply format. As of right now, Action, ADW, Apex, Nova, Go, and Smart launcher developers are working with him to offer support for the code (written from the ground up) to be implemented into their current apps. The implementation of such a theme engine is much simpler than anything on the market to date. And that’s just the tip of this snowballing iceberg, he has made the code Open Source, in the true spirit of Android, so that anyone who has a theme or wants to build a theme off of this template for very easy implementation, can tap the GitHub and build their own, or port their own with the source already on hand. Now I know that not everyone out there who likes a good theme limits their use to the launchers currently supported, and that’s ok. Jai has contacted the developers of other launchers to see if they want to get on board and support the code he has tirelessly put together. Hint hint, if you like this idea and your launcher of choice isn’t “on the list” hit them up and see if they’ll jump on board so you can partake in the themey goodness and not have to change your beloved launcher to come play with the cool kids. For those interested in what the underbelly of the theming societal reform will hold, here are some snippets:

I pepper Jai with questions about this, a lot of questions. Each and every one was responded to quickly and quite efficiently. When I sought the underlying idea behind this brain child monster he has put hour upon hour into, this is the bone I was tossed, and it hit the nail on the head:

This is going to provide a clean and easy to use, for both the themer and user, icon theme templates that support multiple launchers with applying from within. It includes wallpapers, a way to display all of the icons included, a way to request icons while scanning the users device to gain everything the themer needs to add it. Links to the play store, social networking, website linkage, email, and more will all be part of the total package.

It doesn’t get much more complete than that, well, for me the layman anyways. This app/theme engine end result will yield a standalone apk that is installed just like any other theme apk, however, does not rely on a device or rom supporting the Cyanogenmod theme engine. This takes that idea, while still a good idea, and improves on it; just like innovation does and should do, moves the new creation ahead of the pack.

Now I know many of you are chomping at the bit already wanting to get a taste of the Ultimate UI Theming Pie, and while it does taste good, it will not be released until Monday, 10/15/2013. However, if you are a themer or aspiring themer and want to try your hand at creating your own work or art using the Open Source Template, the GitHub link is a few lines up, but I plan on tossing it up again at the bottom of this page for easy access. If I had any theming talent or a machine to theme on, I’d probably be elbow deep in trying this out myself, but alas, I am one of the many who are willing to sop up the hard work and offer my gratitude to the awesome developers that take the time to put stuff like this together and share it with us all.

I do not have a confirmed price as to what the initial releases of these themes will run, but I imagine they will fall inline with those of the past. And honestly, they cost less than a cup of coffee at AM PM but last a lot longer and don’t have that weak bitter taste of gas station coffee. Rest assured though, when the first theme of it’s kind lands we will post a link here with the necessary info for you and all of your friends. If the work in this newest theme holds up to the quality of those in the past, which I have no doubts that it will, the cost is well below the value in regards to the amount of time, effort, blood, sweat, tears, and redbulls that go into making them.

What will the future hold for this cool idea and app? Hard to say, but whatever it is, it will be bright, and it will fit the taste you are looking for then and subsequent day following. Design Rifts has released a comprehensive Icon/Theme pack called, well, Aviator. If you hadn’t figured that out already. This theme pack is awesome. It rolls with 8 custom theme oriented wall papers, 300+ icons with more being added as the developer Design Rifts rolls through. He also has implemented a theme mask so if you have any apps that are not covered in his 300+ library, they will be themed as well so you don’t have a sore thumb hanging out on your home screen or in your app drawer. That always annoys the hell out of me, well, no more, not with this theme anyways. The download is super fast and when your done, the apk you get has it’s own built in, easy to apply interface.

So, with a click of an icon, your favorite launcher, be it Nova, Apex, ADW, Go, Holo, or Action, will be themed to the hilt. Design Rifts has a ton of stuff on the play store, each one of the highest quality and never compromising in the depth and attention to detail. So if Retro isn’t your thing, and I don’t know why it wouldn’t be with a pack like this one, there is something to fit your theming pleasure. Of all the cool shtuff this theme comes with, you can’t miss with the addition of a UCCW theme to polish the whole thing off, yes, there is one of those as well. From the Aviator app home screen (see the left picture, second line below the icon, yup, that’s the spot), you click on that, hit the Play Store, download, and…..Profit. I’ve taken the liberty of taking a few screenies of what I’ve seen and love about the work Design Rifts has done. Here they are for your viewing pleasure…

Oh, damn, I almost forgot one of my favorite features. With the well done icons, all encompassing theme, and great wallpapers, there is a fresh font as well (you probably already saw that by looking at the icon titles in the pics) which completes the whole Retro feel of this theme goodness.

[GO Launcher EX Theme] Halloween

Seeing as the holidays are right around the corner, I’ve decided to help all of you festive folks out and bring you themes packed with holiday fun. So let’s get this started; For the next few weeks, I’ll be bringing you themes that fit your haunting needs.

Today I’m bringing you this Halloween theme by Alefox. It’s a well put-together theme that requires Go Launcher Ex to be running on your phone. It includes many custom icons and 5 HD wallpapers and is also app 2 SD supported. So if your short on storage on your phone, this is a plus.

[Multi-Launcher Theme] Oblivion, custom built theme created by a Pro

It has been a few days we shared a new theme of some kind for your one of your various launchers or ROMs. So off to the many forums we went in search of something that looked good and seemed well made. We found a really great looking theme created by SLCMotor just hanging around over at RootzWiki and though it showed some great potential. Not just because it looks great, but also because it is supported on Go Launcher EX 2.0 & 3.0, Nova Launcher and Apex launcher. Giving more than one type of user the ability to add a little flair to their device with ease.

The developer of the theme has put some serious labor into this one. You get 7 custom wallpapers, custom dockbar, themed menu icons, over 700 custom images, 1568 icons coded for the app drawer and 668 icons to pick from in the icon picker. That is a whole lot of custom work.

The theme might not be for everyone, but you have to respect those that love it and the developer for putting so much time and effort into making it. If it looks like something you would love to add to your collection of themes then hit up the QR code below to go pick it up.

[Go Locker Theme] Get a Jelly Bean Looking Lockscreen onto your Phone

I remember back when Honeycomb came out, and Android decided to stir away from the slider lockscreen. I loved how Honeycomb’s lockscreen looked, and I would always be checking forums trying to get it onto my phone. Same thing when ICS came out. I just had to have it. Some methods required flashing a zip file that could change your framework where it was slightly modified to look like those lockscreens. Still never felt like I had them though.

The very popular home replacement, Go Launcher Ex, decided to take things further with their launcher. They introduced “Go Locker” to add a custom lockscreen to your already customized home launcher. With Go Locker, users were able to get the ICS theme to bring that beautiful lockscreen to their Gingerbread running device. Well now it is time to get Jelly Bean in the mix. Developer team by the name of Exitic Apps have created the Jelly Bean style lockscreen to bring the slightly modified new Android lockscreen to your device.

There are some other JB themes out there as well, but they do not capture the look of the JB lockscreen like this theme does. Free in the Play Store, so if you are already rocking Go Locker and Go Launcher Ex; get it in there and get some Jelly Bean. You can still try to use Go Locker and this theme even if you are not using Go launcher Ex, but just to warn you it was a little iffy on my phone using Apex Launcher. Let us know how you like it.

[GO Launcher Theme] Add some fun to your device with Monkey Z

There is one thing a person can never get tired of and that is themes for our various launchers or ROM’s. Everything from GO Launcher, ADW Launcher, MIUI and CM9 themes are out roaming the Play Store and buried deep inside of different forums. We do our best to dig out some of the best looking ones we can find. Some add HD icons and beautiful wallpapers, some aimed at movies or musics and some are just a whole lot of fun. If you are looking to bring the kid out on your home screen, then you might really enjoy Monkey Z by Antony.Design.

The theme offers up all the usual needs like icons, wallpapers, folders and app drawer. It really gives your Go Launcher a fun new look and feel. We really liked the wallpaper and the icons. Once you pick up the theme from below, you will want to set it. To do that you will want to go to GO Launcher EX: Menu > Theme Preferences and then select the theme and apply it. Alternatively, you can also set specific app icons on your own on the home screen. Just long press the app, tap replace and choose the themes icon. With over 100,000 installs and a 4.5 star rating, it is doing pretty well for its self.

[GO Launcher EX Theme] Add some ‘Sense’ 4.0 to your Homescreen

Every great device that is floating around the world is only as great as the software inside. Android has so much available to it that a lot of it gets lost in the Play Store and buried in forums. One of the greatest advantages in the Android world we live in is the sheer amount of customization options that exist. If you have TouchWiz, install a different launcher. If you hate the stock browser, grab a different one. The flexibility of Android is what truly makes it amazing.

Having the ability to install a different home launcher and then getting themes to make it look the way you WANT it to vs. what they MAKE you have is amazing to me. The latest theme that I came across will pertain to those of you that are sporting GO Launcher EX. It was created by A-Vectra and is styled to bring the new clean look of Sense 4.0 your non Sense 4.0 device. Well, you could always use this theme on your HTC One I suppose.

Some commentor’s are saying the icons are a bit small on the dock. I am not currently using GO Launcher, so I can’t confirm it. They are still rating the theme in the 4.5 star range, so I assume it must not be a huge deal. The theme is available for FREE and can be picked up in the Play Store at your leisure. Over the weekend we were contacted by TeamCarbon regarding a new theme they just released to the Play Store. I am sure many of you are familiar with the themers. They have a variety of themes for CM7, Go Launcher, GO Widgets and many others. They bring in a huge array of color options and produce some great work in their spare time. One of the more recent additions to their collection is a Jungle Camo theme. Giving the hunter and the military Android users something that fits their life styles and personalities a little better. The theme features 300 custom icons, 110 alternate icons and 4 camo themed wallpapers.

You can easily see in the various images how the theme will look when activated to your device. The icons that aren’t custom themed will still have a a great camo background attached. [ADW Theme] 3D Metal with a touch of Androids

We try to cover as many developers and themes we can dig up for all your various ROM’s and various launcher applications. While the task might seem easy to some, there are a lot themes out there. We could easily spend the whole day posting nothing but themes, but you guys would get sick of that in a hurry. We just realized we haven’t post up a great looking ADW theme in a while, so we went on a mission to locate something different. Something that wasn’t Ice Cream Sandwich related.

We stumbled upon a theme in the Play Store by dberm22. The theme icon and the them name doesn’t make it pop out as far as what it really is. When you see 3D metal, you would expect the theme to be all about steel or something similar. While the dock bar is a rounded piece of sheet metal, that is about all the metal you are going to get. The icons are actually ones you may have seen and used before. I know I have. They are the ever so cool little Android robots holding you application icons in his hands. Those were originally created some time ago by Manup456, and I think we shared them with you guys a while ago.

dberm22 has a free version for you take a look at. It offers a limited number of Android icons, but get the themes point across. If you fall in love with it, then you will want to snag the donate version for 0.99. The primary difference between the two will be additional icons that dberm22 has added to the theme that he created.

If you feeling like stepping away from the more tradition theme styles, this is a pretty cool way to do it. Feel free to click or scan the QR below to install it. Don’t forget, the theme is meant for ADW Launcher EX, but any launcher that lets you replace icons is free to download and use the included icon pack as well.

Go Launcher HD for Pads Hits the Play Store Today

Well the day has come where Go Launcher HD is out of beta testing and is in the Play Store ready for you to download.
