It’s Twoo, It’s Twoo …. 4G Speed is a reality

by Simon Walker on 17th Mar 2010 -

You may have read my earlier post about the potential of an unidentified 4G signal piggy backing on the current cell towers.  Well we now have more…

Taker a close look at the screen shot below… No… Closer….Yes, it does say 4G.

Our friendly develop community is working hard to jump on board this new found 4G signal (or whatever they are calling the technology they are testing) and get us all connected at blazing fast speeds before anything has been officially announced.

Let’s hope the superstar developers around can get this out to the masses before any of the affected carriers get a wind of it…..SShhhhhh everyone.

Now we just need to get some explanation of exactly what this is and when they think we can have it cos I sure do want my phones blazing at 4G speeds.

Thats just a change of the H icon to a 4g icon on Cyan’s roms. Definitely not 4g..

They changed the H to a 4g but forgot to manipulate the down/up speeds. Lol. This is way to slow to be 4g. 4g can do up to 100mbps. The illustration is less then 2mbps.

Apparently, they have the connection going, but they haven’t got the speed up yet. I was told they are working on it. That’s why the speed test was done.
        That’s what I was told anyways. :)

cofirmed it is way below speed right now, but its coming up all we are doing is “Accessing” the network havent got the speed yet

    Okay….really guys….how is this news?

It was well known months ago that the HSDPA network would be compatible with any 3g device, yep thats right ANY 3g device.

I’d be happy with 3G at home. All I was told from T-Mobile was that I was on the edge of 3G coverage. That doesn’t explain why I barely get Edge at home. I hate T-Mobile for that.:(

ROFL do u guys have fact checkers or access to wikipedia
if that says 4G its nothing more than a hack and those speeds are not better than 3G
    smoke and mirrors
HSDPA access is determined by the hardware radio speeds
    ex htc magic 7.2 MBPS
    xperia X10 10.2 MBPS

This is still not up to speed at all and constantky switched back and forth between 3g and 4g however it has been confirmed that we are accessing a 3g and 4g signal. More later to unstable so far to report more

i don’t show 4g but 3g. and my speeds are well beyond 3mbps

    That’s the best with 4g.

Well I wouldn’t call this 4G for a few reasons.

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) have not finalized the 4G standard (aka LTE advanced) yet, but a few operators are experimenting with LTE today (I’m not in the states but I think that Verizon is running pilot tests of lte networks in Seattle and Chicago, correct me if I’m wrong).

There are a few reasons why todays phones or 3G modems can’t handle 3.9G (LTE), it’s a bit technical but in short they don’t use the same protocol. This “piggy backing” that some operators do is essentially letting the user connect to LTE stations with 3G protocols, this should not boost speeds further then HSDPA+ since the tech in the phones can’t use more then what they are built for. One reason for higher results when connected to LTE relay stations is that they are not under as heavy usage today.

Anyways, LTE is not 4G (yet) as of now it’s 3.9G but when the standard is set by ITU exsisting LTE stations can be upgraded to LTE Advanced (4G). The main difference between LTE and LTE Advanced is the speed while LTE offers about (theoretically) 100Mbit/s down and 50Mbit/s up (and in reality about 15-30 down and 5-20 up) LTE Advanced specifications are going to boost this to 1Gbit/s down but I’m currently not sure on the upstream speed.

On another note the first LTE mobile where recently presented in Barcelona (February).

I would like some 4g access, since we got a functional 4g net commercially active here in Sweden. It’s already at 50Mbit and upgrades are coming. 3g speeds of up to 14Mbit has been available for quite some time and the HTC magic can get the 7.2Mbit without any problem. So if there is a way for 4g to be accessible from the HTC Magic i would be quite happy!

The first 4g modems are already out on the market here in Sweden and fully functional.

That’s speeds that Verizon is getting consistently on their 3g network.
4G is just a marketing moniker right now thanks to Sprint jumping the gun.
I suppose credit is due for getting the circuit to connect to the tower, tho?

to be honest. i dont believe this. if you really open up the apks and look through the drawables in the frameworks then youll see there is nooooo symbol for “4G” i am pretty sure someone took the 3g drawable .png and edited to say 4G. this process is very simple.. its very basic theming.
