Update: We have received email from multiple readers reporting that this update does not play nice with some devices running custom ROMs. The error seems to render Voice unable to log into the associated google account which results in it being unable to load properly. If you are experiencing similar issues or have a solution to the problem please post below. We also recommend that you make a Nandroid backup before updating Voice so that you can revert to the older version in case the update goes wrong.
Today Google added two features to Voice for Android: Voice now lets you tap contact pictures to communicate more quickly with your contacts (see picture below) and, more importantly, Voice now offers quasi instant arrival for your incoming SMS. Using the Inbox synchronization feature, your SMS are now pushed to your handset within seconds of arriving rather than every 5 minutes or when you send one out. This is huge, considering that many people use SMS similar to the way they use IM – i.e. as an ongoing chat. To get your hands on the new shiny, check Android Market. [FIX]
I am on SuperEclair V8.2 unfixed or customized.
I was able to fix it by choosing the “Use a different account” button and manually typing in my gmail account. Sync is working and it only takes 35 seconds, but there seems to be an error when there are multiple unread messages

Last month I completely cancelled text messaging and turned it off all together on T-Mo. Had a feeling this would be coming soon, I’m curious why it doesn’t use the sync adapter though. Right now I can gladly say I’m content with my Nexus and all its features + Goog Services (voice, gmail, cal, etc) might still have to root for the tethering but I haven’t really needed it yet.

I’m on Cannon202 Complete Eclair 1.2 with Firerat’s 3D Youtube Fix. I was able to apply Brooks Knight’s fix but Sync doesn’t seem to be working
