MyTouch 3G 1.2 Plagued with SD Card Problems. Fix Available!

For those of you getting frustrated by the SD card issues on the newer MyTouch 3G version 1.2, it is a known issue and T-Mobile / HTC are replacing the faulty SD cards.  Apparently, it stops you using your Camera.  For those of you who didn’t know about the issue, here’s some background information from user JSoup:

2 days later I proceeded to take a picture, while the camera display was there, I had a message displaying across the screen: “Please Insert an SD card before using the camera”. I checked Settings/SD card & phone storage to see the total space at 7.40gb so it was reading the SD card. I unmounted, then mounted to make sure that it was installed properly and it was. After going back and forth between the home screen, gallery, and camera, I was not able to take a picture, nor use any data from the SD card (ie: wallpaper, pictures, videos, music). I called 611 and they said I needed a “refresh” so they instructed me to turn my phone off, then turn it back on after about 10 seconds. Everything worked after that.

2 days later, it happened again, only this time the error was more intermittent. I called 611 again and they instructed me to format the SD card a perform a factory data reset. They mentioned that if this does not work, it must be hardware and they recommended I get a replacement phone. The format/reset worked… for 2 hours.

The user also posted a video on YouTube to demonstrate the problem.

The problem has been around for a while, but we have just been contacted by a user asking about the issue and we wanted to make sure you all knew the best steps to fix it.  You can call T-Mobile support by dialing 611 on your phone and quoting reference number: CCKB629710.  They will probably refer you to HTC to get your SD card replaced, you can call them directly at +1 (888) 716-3594.

      Just got off the phone with HTC they are going to be pushing an OTA update to the myTouchs. There is nothing wrong with your SDcard there is a bug with the software. Hopefully this OTA update also contains Android 2.2(:

      Just got off the phone with HTC they are going to be pushing an OTA update to the myTouchs. There is nothing wrong with your SDcard there is a bug with the software. Hopefully this OTA update also contains Android 2.2(:

    I’ve been dealing with the MyTouch SD card problem for several months now. It seems that the problem is fixed by upgrading from the included class 2 micro SD card to a faster class 4 or 6 card. However, T-Mo and HTC haven’t caught on, and they will just send you another class 2 card which won’t fix the problem. I had to buy a class 6 card from newegg.     I have a new mYtouch 3g, but, before I knew about the problem,I had bought a 16 gb class 6 card. I tried using the card that came with the phone,and had the problem. I called HTC, and they sent me the same blasted card. Which I sent back. I’ve not had the problem with the 16 gb card, whatsoever. but,the thing is,I bought it, and theoretically, I shouldn’t have the problem to begin with.

      Keep fighting for your SD card…My friend was having the same problem and she said that she bought her own 16gb class 6 also and it worked so they ended up discounting what she paid for the card on her bill! So it all worked out! Good Luck!

    I have a new mYtouch 3g, but, before I knew about the problem,I had bought a 16 gb class 6 card. I tried using the card that came with the phone,and had the problem.     T-Mobile was very helpful, they gave me the number to call for a replacement memory card and they are sending me a new My Touch. The representative was quick and helpful, this does not happen often when calling T-Mobile customer service.

    I have had the exact same problem. Thing is, T-Mobile replaced my phone before realizing it was an SD card problem. After an initial phone replacement and the same problem still happening, I found out about the HTC SD card issue. HTC has replaced 4 SD cards, and T-Mobile has replaced 7 phones…I am still having the same problem. The phone still will not recognize the SD card from time to time. Apparently, there is also a new known problem between Google software, the HTC SD card and T-Mobile MyTouch phone. An email was sent out last week, between Google, HTC and T-Mobile. They are saying there will eventually be a phone update sent out. But when???? I just want it to work…any suggestions?

    im having the same issue with my phones….. ill waite for the update if there is one.

    if tmobile wants their money they will send out the update….. or im jumping ship.

    We spoke with HTC this evening and they claim they will be issuing class 4 (or 60 SD cards to replace the class 2 sandisks that came standard. They said the phone’s processor is too fast for the class 2 card. Also, they may push an operating system update as well at some point. There was no timetable for either of these “fixes.”

    I had this problem with my SD card as well. I ended up calling HTC and having them send me a replacment SD card. However while I was waiting I rooted my phone to Cyanogen’s Mod 5.0.7 which is basically Eclair 2.1 and I haven’t had that problem since. Although I did have to send my old SD card to HTC cause my new one came in. I guess it’s just a problem with the Donut 1.6 OS.

    From what Im told, I’m now ‘on a list’ of people that’s getting an ‘sd card thats not made by ‘sd”. Apparently this problem is secluded to SD cards, so this ‘SHOULD fix my problem’

It’s been a few weeks since swapping out the supplied SanDisk class 2 micro SD card with a Kingston 8GB class 4 (purchased at Fry’s for $13 after rebate). All problems with the camera and apps that write to memory have been resolved. May be a problem with the speed of the card, as most people in the T-mobile forums report success with class 4 or 6. HTC e-mailed a FedEx shipping label to send back the defective card for a replacement. Hope that they wake up and stop sending out additional faulty ones.

    I’ll believe it when I see it. They’ve been saying they’re going to push an update for months, something they should be doing regularly.

    Meanwhile, I have to reinsert my SD card several times per day.

    i contacted the number given and told them what was going on – before i knew it they were taking my information and gave me an order number to send me a new SD card.

      I’ve just recently did the same thing, I called the direct number after reading this post and next thing I knew, they’ve already taken down my information and is sending me a brand new sd card.

    Got the new sd card, having same issue. there seems to be no fix for this… also, games that save info to the sd card cannot save to the sd card half the time.

      Got the new SD card from HTC and its an 8g same class same issue… Im hoping that they straighten up and send me what works for my phone!

    I went out and bought a $14 8g class 4 card from patriot and that fixed my problem. From all that I read it has something to do with the class of the card which either needed to be faster of different manuf from the one shipped with the phone which was class 2.

    I recently had problems with the Mytouch 3G when the OS was updated, they sent me a new phone and I sent my old one back. The instructions didn’t mention keeping the SD card, it was sent back. Now I have to buy a new SD card because T-mobile “has no way of knowing it was sent back.”
    So they’re telling me when they recieve these items they don’t check them at all? WTF T-mobile. So now that I have to buy one (even though the phone originally came with one) what should I buy? I don’t want to buy one and hope it works, that sounds expensive… BTW, the Mytouch seemed to be everywhere and now when I walk into the stores I can’t even find a display, is the Mytouch a horrible phone? I think so.
