This is an interesting development. Claiming to have pre-sold their estimated stock, as of Sunday, July 4th Best Buy will again take pre-orders for the new Motorola phone. In addition, over at the Best Buy community forums, they’ve added a helpful Droid X pre-order FAQ. Here are a couple things to consider:
Does pre-ordering the Droid X by Motorola at Best Buy® guarantee me a phone on launch day?
No. However, we do fulfill pre-orders in the order they were placed.
What do I do if I have a complaint about how my Best Buy® store managed the pre-order process?
The best thing to do would be to talk to the store’s general manager as they are ultimately responsible for their store. Many GM’s place their email address on the local store page for their store on BestBuy.com.
For anyone going the Best Buy route to Droid X ownership, does this change anything for you?

I went to my local Best Buy in Greenville, SC and they put my name on a wait list but it was not really a pre-order and they didn’t require me to purchase a gift card. They did say that if they receive more inventory for the July 16 launch than the units ordered in their 1st pre-order then they would contact the people on the wait list in the order they put their names.
