Froyo To Roll Out On 3 Devices Next Week!

android_froyo_01

It looks like Android 2.2 (Froyo) will be making its way to your devices very soon. Thanks to a Verizon tipster who claims that the Motorola Droid X, the HTC Droid Incredible, and the Motorola Droid will be receiving the Android 2.2 update at the same time. He also stated that this not a rumor, but confirmed. He said that HTC and Motorola will be release Android 2.2 simultaneously and will start pushing out the Android 2.2 update beginning August 6th, which is next Friday.  It’s expected to hit all of these devices by August 15th. That’s great news and potentially adds substance to the rumor that the Motorola Droid 2 will ship with Android 2.2.

Keep your fingers crossed and an eye on your device.

With these devices receiving Android 2.2 very soon, now would be a good time to purchase any of these devices via the AndroidSPIN Cell Phone Store and receive the best prices around.

For some reason I’m just no surprised. T-mo was first with android and is currently DEAD FREAKING last in updates and phones. T-mobiles solution, lets make a new phone that barely surpasses the old phone, yay!!!!!!! Rather disappointing….

Go Verizon for caring for their customers….

    • eye9

barely? What are you talking about.. the Samsung Vibrant is the MOST powerful Android phone (or even smartphone) in terms of hardware specifications.

      • dean olson

Yes, but it is merely one phone in a dead lineup. EVERYONE knows that Verizon has by far the best android lineup. Say what you want about how amazing the Evo is, but it as well as the Epic are no match for the DI, X, 2, and fascinate. Verizon is the place to be as of… NOW!

        • Eric

A dead lineup? The MT3gS is a perfectly decent phone, and if Motorola would update their Cliqs they’d be up there too(I don’t blame Moto for focusing on the Droid lineup if they have limited resources bc it obviously sells much better). And lets not forget the venerable N1.

The point is, Verizon’s android lineup, aside from the vanilla Droid, is made up of nothing but “superphones” and thats not what EVERYONE needs or wants. I think T-Mo has a nice variety of low, mid, and high end Androids that should appeal to just about everyone.

Now, don’t get me wrong, they could certainly do well to ADVERTISE a bit, which Verizon has succeeded tremendously at. Anyway, when it comes down to it, there are a lot of great choices regardless of your carrier.

For me personally, I’m perfectly happy with my Vibrant, and I pay literally $40 less per month than I would on Verizon.

          • snowboarder8156

Eric do you ever think Froyo will come to your slide without rooting? I highly doubt it! Froyo will never see the light of day on any T-mo device that has been already released. N1 gets it well cause its directly from Google themselves so CHEERS! to the people who have it!!! Wish I had bought one instead of my slowpoke mt3g

          • Cb

Nothing but superphones in Verizon’s Android line-up? Way to overlook the Eris, Devour, and Ally.

With all due respect to Cyanogen and company with the tweaks that they can do – if you’re just wanting basic Froyo, I’d suggest one just waits for their carrier as it sounds like it is just right around the corner.

This is great news for the Droid x. I’ve had mine since July 15th and it’s a great phone. Froyo will make it even better with the flash update. Finally, all of the web in the palm of my hand. Sorry Apple flash isn’t going to vanish off the web like you’d hoped.

    • Mike

Looking forward to Froyo and the performance boost it will bring to my DroidX. Not only forward to Flash, but also the better memory management and JIT compiler too!

But, unfortunately for those of us who bought the HTC Droid Eris just a few months ago, it looks like we’re stuck at Android 2.1. Apparently, and let me know if I’m wrong, this is Verizon’s judgement call. It’s unfortunate that the service providers are given such monopolistic control over OS upgrades. In an ideal world, I’d be able to entirely bypass Verizon on this and download a legitimate copy of Froyo from either Google or HTC to my PC, copy to my Eris and install from there. I’d even be willing to pay a few dollars for the privilege.
