For those who could not attend the Star Wars™ Celebration V event in Orlando, Verizon was there showing off their limited edition Star Wars™ Empire Strikes Back Special Edition R2-D2 Phone. Under the R2-D2 graphics lies Verizon’s latest Droid series device, the Motorola Droid 2. The success of the original Motorola Droid helped bring the Android OS to the mainstream and with high-end devices presently entering the mobile market, Verizon and Motorola decided to bring the original Droid back adding a 1GHz processor and cosmetic enhancements, giving the device a smoother look. The Motorola Droid 2 is the first device to enter the mobile market shipping with Android 2.2. As you can see in the image above, the device is displayed on a banner as an authentic R2-D2 figurine rests in the foreground.
The device is set to be launched on September 30th and limited quantities will be available.
