Many of you are curious to know how the T-Mobile G2 is going to compare to T-Mobile’s current front-runner, the Samsung Vibrant. Thanks to Wirefly, we have a comparison chart below that highlights the similar qualities of these devices as well as their differences. In the image below, you’ll find the known specs of the G2 and the current specs of the Vibrant in a quick comparison format.
- The user interface plays a big role when it comes to devices because certain people have their own preferences. The Samsung Vibrant features Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 which comes with its own widgets, launcher, lockscreen and overall appearance, while the G2 will be running stock Android UI which allows users to receive future Android updates a lot sooner.
- Under the hood of the Samsung Vibrant comes a 1GHz Hummingbird processor that runs much faster and more smoothly than the Qualcomm Snapdragon which you can find on devices like the HTC Evo 4G and the Google Nexus One. The G2 will be running Qualcomm’s Scorpion processor clocked at 800 MHz which we are looking forward to testing.
- The Samsung Vibrant is running Android 2.1 with an upgrade to Android 2.2 fast approaching while the T-Mobile G2 will be shipping with Android 2.2 with Adobe 10.1 flash support and the mobile hotspot feature.
- The Samsung Vibrant, like the other Galaxy S variants, features a 4″ Super AMOLED display which is arguably one of the best displays we’ve seen on a mobile device and with Avatar pre-installed on the Vibrant it’ll put your HDTV to shame. The G2 is said to feature a 3.7″ AMOLED display which you can find on the Google Nexus One. Both displays reduce power consumption and reflection when in direct sunlight.
- Both devices feature a 5MP camera, but the G2 will be equipped with an LED flash. The Vibrant records in 720p HD and has various camera settings which include night mode and panoramic capturing. If you own a Vibrant and have yet to try out panoramic mode, I highly suggest you do. Rumored specs of the G2 suggest that it will also come with 720p HD recording as well.
- One of the best features on the Vibrant is the 16GB internal storage and it comes with a pre-installed 2GB microSD card. The T-Mobile G2 is rumored to have 4GB internal storage and we’re not too sure on the microSD card; we would assume a 4GB or even 8GB microSD card will be shipped with the device and will be expandable up to 32GB.
Check out the comparison chart below for more information and keep in mind the G2 specs are currently known specs and could possibly change before this device arrives. Enjoy!

What would you choose, the Samsung Vibrant or the T-Mobile G2?

Vibrant
Can’t go wrong either way. I’d like a G2, but I’m very content with my Vibrant.
Vibrant
Stock Android, solid Nexus One like build quality with metal accents. Definately the G2 for me. Wanted the Vibrant but cheap plastic feels like a bootled iPod touch.
*bootleg
Tuff decision. Samsung as stepped up there game but I gotta with the g2 and hope the devs on xda feel the same way. Unlike the slide where alot jumped ship. Now all I have to so is win the lottery!!
it looks pretty even to me. the major differences are the internal storage & display (which favors vibrant) and the stock android, hspa+ & body or look/feel of the device which favors the g2. so we’re back at square 1. which difference matters most to u? (didnt use the processor cuz its such a big debate right now) personally, i would go g2 cuz vibrant looks like i fake iphone, sorry, and the g2 is newer and has hspa+.
I would not choose a G2/G3 OR ANYTHING in that manner..
I was soooo dissatisfied with the G1..
&&& BTW why only an 800 MHZ processor!! come on!!!
This will be a huge upgrade to a G1. So try it out before putting your opinion on it. It’s a 1ghz processor, but they chose to underclock it at 800 to save battery but at the same time not loosing any power.
It’s a brand new 800 mhz scorpion processor which is a lot better than any of the 1ghz snapdragons that are out. This slim physical keyboard phone will be a beast, you’ll see.
I’m gonna stick with my N1, tyvm
If I had to go between the two, it’s tough, as the hspa+ and stock android make me want the G2 (as well as the fact that it’s made by HTC), but the extra 0.3″ on the screen for the Vibrant, and the fact that it’s keyboardless (something that I’m even shocked to be saying myself…but Swype has converted me, and hardware keyboards now feel like unecessary weight/bulk) is a big plus, too.
I’d probably end up with the G2, simply for the hspa+ and the stock Android, but if the Vibrant continues developing a strong rom community (i.e. regular CM updates) I’d pick that one.
vibrant
AFAIK all Snapdragon devices feature the Scorpion CPU! The name Snapdragon refers to the combination of CPU, GPU and other electronics (SoC). But the G2 CPU is build in 45nm compared to the older CPUs in 65nm. Potentially easier on the battery. Also the G2 features a newer and much faster GPU than the Nexus One/HTC Desire
to be honest, i dont think that the G2 will be able to compete with the vibrant, even if the new GPU makes up for the 800 mhz clock. Plus, the battery life will still probably suck because HTC is pretty cheap when it comes to batteries. The G1 came with this crap 750 mA battery…
Why not throw in the MyTouch HD (maybe Emerald?). Are there any specs on that we can compare??
better battery life on my g1 than vibrant*
also in case you didnt know the vibrant is already using a 45nm cpu
firstly, g1 came with a 1150mah battery.
secondly, this is htc’s first 45nm chip which should improve battery life.
lastly i used a vibrant for a week and with the same settings as my g1, i had better battery life for similar usage. so instead of assuming you should really think before you post.
What are you talking about? The G1 came with a 750 mA battery. I have the thing in front of me right now. Second im not sure how the hell you are getting better barrery life off of the g1. The g1 has a 65 nm chip, with a power hungry screen, and and a battery with half the capacity.
Either way, util HTC stops using QCOM chipsets and crap batteries im going to avoid them like the plague.
maybe thats why you have such bad battery life, because you have the wrong battery.
just checked my g1 and confirmed on another website that it does indeed have a 1150mah battery. you can see here http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/T-Mobile-G1-phone-p_3097.html
also amoleds, super or not, use a significantly higher amount of energy when showing the color white, which for my use of text and web browsing is constantly that color.
“While an OLED will consume around 40% of the power of an LCD displaying an image which is primarily black, for the majority of images it will consume 60–80% of the power of an LCD – however it can use over three times as much power to display an image with a white background[67] such as a document or website. This can lead to disappointing real-world battery life in mobile devices.”
only devices released recently from ti and samsung have beat snapdragons, but qualcomms new chip will narrow the gap so theres no reason to complain about qualcomm.
Vibrant definitely. I was planning on upgrading to the vibrant then decided to wait a bit for more info to come out on the g2-complete waste of my time. Less internal memory, smaller screen, inferior screen technology, heavier, gimped 4 row keyboard with no arrow keys (no, a trackball/pad is not a replacement) and an improved snapdragon with a gpu just a bit inferior to the hummingbird. How fantastic. The only things this phone has going for it is its stock android (already available on vibrant cutom roms…), flash and hspa+(still not available where I live sadly enough). This phone seems better for business types who can’t use onscreen keyboards whereas the vibrant seems more attuned to those digging more play with a side of work. Happily enough, I happen to fit into that second category. I’ll take that vibrant with a side of avatar now, thanks.
Whoa, just noticed the infinitesimally small buttons on the front of the g2, yikes. Hope this nexus one with a keyboard has better/more sensitive capacitive buttons than the nexus one did! XD
G2 for sure everyone saw how good the G1 was why would they make this phone worse its just going to be an upgraded G1 and people complaining about .3 less of a screen you are retarded stop being so stupid and get your mind right and believe when the G2 comes out it will have multiple colors like the G1 and froyo i mean come on cause you know t-mobile wont upgrade there previous devices all phones left behind im still rockin a mt3g with 1.6 how embarassing ready for the G2 and you should be to
You’re still on 1.6? o.0 You should root your phone and install 2.2 on there. I have a mytouch 3g 1.2 with Cyanogen Mod 6 on it and I like it. I doubt T-mobile is going to upgrade any of the phones anymore. If I were to chose G2 or Vibrant I’d pick the Vibrant because it’s more appealing to me. I’m not a big fan of the whole QWERTY keyboard. It looks atrocious in my opinion, which is why I never liked the G1.

I was waiting on more info about the G2 before I ordered my Vibrant also. After hearing these specs I just went ahead and ordered the Vibrant it will be here Thursday.
Same here bro, got mine yesterday. It’s pretty sweet and my gps doesn’t seem that bad surprisingly. 2 satellites locked indoors on gpstest in under a minute and navigation getting me to work reliably (just for testing purposes, I know where I work…) is good enough for me gps wise!
Yea I’m not to worried about the GPS issue. The update is supposed to be out at the end of this month so it’s not like it’s a permanent thing. I’m not a heavy GPS user anyways. I do use it but I can work with my GF’s mytouch if I’m really that desperate before October. Hell I could just use my own mytouch if necessary.

Sticking with my Vibrant
I need help choosing. They both seem appealing to me but on one side I like the multimedia that the Vibrant offers but I like the Vanilla Google experience. The Vibrant is 3G but the G2 has 3G and HSPA+ (T-Mobile’s name for 4G). The Vibrant has 16GB on-board memory while the G2 only has 4GB on-board. The Vibrant ships with Android 2.1 while G2 comes with 2.2 already and is able to upgrade sooner because it’s stock. The Vibrant has a Super Amoled Screen and the G2 just has a SVGA screen. I sure hope you see my dilema. Any help would be appreciated. By-the-way, this will be my first Android OS phone.
what did u decide?
Vibrant
why?
The Vibrant is better in every way except the keyboard, feel, and hspa+
vibrant of course
Vibrant with CM6.1.1. There really is no need for T-Mobile updates. People complain about this a lot, but it is really simple to just root and flash CM. More speed and features.
