I’m sure most of you have heard of the third party app ADW Launcher, or at least the developer behind it, AnderWeb. Less than a year ago, the ADW launcher was nothing more than an attempt at porting the launcher 2 from the newly released Nexus 1 to other devices running Android 1.6 (Donut). Slowly but surely, the project picked up speed, as Anderweb starting adding feature after feature (after feature). Eventually, the launcher became so widely used that Cyanogen decided to incorporate into the ever-popular CyanogenMOD project. Although there hasn’t been many major updates to ADW recently (besides the introduction of themes a few months ago), AnderWeb certainly hasn’t been slacking.
Ander was nice enough to provide me with an alpha preview of his new “Freaky” update to ADW, and I put together a quick video to demonstrate some of its impressive features, specifically the new screen transitions. Please keep in mind, although my experience may have been quite positive with the test release, AnderWeb has stated that this is more of a test or “concept project” than anything else, and to expect bugs, crashes, and other quirks (which are typical in pre-release alpha and beta builds) and that these features may never make it into the released version of ADW. Judging from the video below, we can certainly cross our fingers though…….

I prefer tinkering with my phone any day over actually using it for its main purposes.
Once you get it set-up the way you like, and backup those settings, you never need to reconfigure again. I was worth the 10-15 min set-up to customize it exactly to my liking, and I’ve been using that set-up for months. Easily worth the few extra minutes, IMHO.
Hey man! I have just the phone for you. See, we made the background BLACK and we even removed the widgets and other goodies! And for the low price of 1902348209480498234.99 you too can have your iPhone 3GS. Good luck man!
I want it, I want it, I want it. How do I get it lol

Like I mentioned, this is a “concept” project and we may never see these in ADW. Hopefully, AnderWeb can work out the few kinks and release it w/ the next version of ADW.
The new screen transitions look really good. Its about time some one made a change to usual slide transition. Cant wait to get this on my vibrant.
When will this be available?
No one knows if it will be. Read the article and watch the video, it explains that
I wonder if the apk will be “accidently” leaked for everyone to try?
I for one would love this right now, even if it is only a beta.
All of us on AnderWebs “alpha” team made a promise that we wouldn’t redistribute the apk until He felt it was worthy of a public release. I know everyone is excited to try it, but let him work out a few little issues first. Feel free to tell him your thoughts on twitter (@anderwebs). I’m sure if enough people show interest, he will consider publicly releasing an update with these features.
I thought he might do that and I would never expect anyone e to break their word. Without trustworthy testers, developers will just stop releasing new apps. I’ve spoken to him on twitter for a while, so he at least knows how excited I am about his next release
Thats why I put together this demo. Developers get excited when they see users getting excited about something, and the circle continues.
Please get this up and running! Looks really sweet! I like the flippy screens!
Ander has really put so much into ADW since it was released….i remember first seeing it in FastTest by HTCCLAY. This is really cool and another reason why ADW is the best launcher out there….and you can play around with settings all day and backup what you like, and then just restore. After flashing roms, and then wiping your phone, ADW restore takes care of the rest.
I NEED effects 1,3,5 and 7! Also Jason needs to use his home key instead of back
What can I say? I like using the back key, as it closes apps instead of hiding them. Its a habit :-p
LOL, even I was tricked by Ander. Sorry guys!
SeriousPanda is not amused.
Hey Jason, whats the name of that battery widget you use?
BatteryLife by Curvefish. Great dev btw
What is the clock widget called?
Clockwork mod recovery.
Can any one assist me with downloading the Android Market to my Coby Kyros 7015 tablet? Its already been rooted!
