Time and time again we warn you of the dangers of rooting and the dangers of installing a manufacturer update that gets pushed out via OTA. This particular issue is slightly different. Without a notice, a warning or option to say “NO”, people are reporting factory resets are occurring.

This seems to be happening to rooted NOOKcolors when accessing the online shop. The device then does a factory reset, wipes everything and starts you back at the beginning. The good news is this is not reported to be installing any patches or security fixes so you you can easily re-root your NC and everything will be back up and running as before.
Thank goodness it’s not permanent. No word yet on if this is just some technical issue or if it is Barnes & Nobles’ attempt to thwart hackers. The factory reset seems to be limited to only a handful of rooted devices at the moment. If you run into this issue please let us know about it.
