Cyanogen Shows Off Screen Shots of CM9′s Launcher

The boys over at Cyanogen have been hard at work to bring us their next delicious treat full of Ice Cream Sandwich, CM9. While other AOSP ICS ROMS hit the forums, we all still cannot wait until we get a taste of what Cyanogen is brewing up. Some phones have been getting early alpha versions, but getting the real deal is something we are all looking forward too. I am looking forward to flashing their ICS ROM and updating it frequently with nightly’s just like we have done with CM6 and CM7. I just recently went back to a Cm7 Nightly from MIUI and wow, there has been some big improvements in the two months I was in the MIUI world.

As you can see in the screenshots, not much differs from what we have been seeing from any of the ICS screenshots. The Google search bar is not transparent like we have been seeing, but has the ICS solid color background. Another slight difference in that homescreen shot, is they went back to the old market icon as opposed to the ICS market icon. I personally like the older one better, but it really makes no difference to me. Catalog makes an appearance in the widgets app drawer along with connectbot, and the last screenshot shows us the launcher preferences where if you notice at the bottom, it names the launcher “Trebuchet  0.1″. Trebuchet is a “siege engine” employed in the Middle Ages which would break down city walls or other fortifications in siege warfare, according to Wikipedia. Whoa boys, no need for warfare. Just give us that Cyanogen magic and we will all be at peace. I guess Cyanogen had help from the public on naming their new launcher, by getting ideas on their Google+ page. I totally missed that tweet, but I guess the name has strength. Some people suggested “IceCreamSandwich Launcher” or “Asskick Launcher”. I kind of like the Asskick myself.

Just remember the golden rule. Do not ask ETA’s or even ask for the features of their launcher. They are hard at work and have never disappointed us. The beginning of 2012 is looking good my Android friends, and we will all share a delicious ice cream sandwich together.

I'm now currently using the G2 Vision that I've turned into a beast. Technology moves fast, but I'm strapped in and along for the ride.

a Trebuchet is a catapult, it *launches* things. They were asking for names for the new launcher on g+ and that one won, apparently.

yeaa i dont like that search bar

  3. I believe the search bar is actually a widget instead of being permanent on the screen like ICS. I am sure it will be themed pretty quickly. Also interesting to see is what they do with the themes for ICS.

I own a samsung galaxy s2. Given the amount of phones samsung have sold, i am astonished that we sg2 owners are on the back foot for a working release of an ics beta. On the plus side when we finally get a release it will i believe be brilliant.
