RIM calls all Android developers to submit their apps for the PlayBook 2.0 by Monday

Many are calling this big news for Blackberry and their semi failing PlayBook. It depends on which side of the coin you are happier with. On one hand, soon, you will have Android apps capable of running in an emulator on the PlayBook giving the PlayBook owners a win/win situation. On the other hand you have Android needing to step in and save RIM and their PlayBook. Opening up the PlayBook to run Android applications sure makes the tablet a bit more appealing to me and to many others I know. The question is will it work well and will it be enough to boost sales of the tablet?

Nothing in the tech world is ever set in stone, but if you are a developer you may as well capitalize on all avenues available to you. RIM has announced that any devs out there that wish to submit their app to the Blackberry Runtime for Android software will need to do it by this Monday, February 6th. The update to the Playbook is set to launch sometime next month, and bringing in our talented developers and our amazing number of apps to the device will increase its current app limitations. The Android environment is said to be a seamless integration to the tablet that will have no user impacts. They are also saying that the Android apps will be compatible with Blackberry 10 when it launches later this year.

I love to hate the idea as much as I hate to love it. If Blackberry can pull it off and it works well it could be a huge deal for them and Android at the same time. Giving people the perks of both worlds on a single device. It would never make me switch to a BB device, but it sure will make me keep an eye out for a used PlayBook later this year. What are your thoughts about this moving forward?

Time for an update. I am the proud father of three, 2, 8, and 11. I finally just moved up from the Samsung Vibrant to the Samsung Galaxy S III...... Let me tell you, it is mind blowing. I love Android, I love tech and I love my family. Not in that order though. I work to hard, play even harder and take care of all that are around me when I can.

Bogus, the playbook is a great device. With the addition of android it should make it competitive. I have a playbook and compared to my daughters ipad i much prefer to use the playbook. The only thing that makes the ipad more poplular is the apps. The playbook interface is much easier to use not to mention the ability to open more than one app at a time. Much better than ipad. Give RIM a break, they have a great product that continually gets bad reviews from ipad sycophants.
