Sprint Epic 4G Touch ICS OTA now rolling out, changelog gets posted Too

2

The Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Sprint Epic 4G Touch has been a ling time coming. With leaks landing for weeks, we wondered if Sprint would ever truly release it. The update is now landing on customers devices across the globe via an OTA instead of forcing you to use Samsung Kies. As usual though, OTA’s take some time to rollout to all users. Sprint expects all devices to get the update delivered with in a months time. That is a long time to wait, but at least you know it is  out. You can always hit up the Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Update > Update Android to attempt to ping for it. No promises it will work though. Don’t forget, make sure your device charged well over 50% and a Wi-Fi connection is usually a good idea for downloading the update too.

What will you be getting when it is all said and done? Ice Cream Sandwich of course, but a few other things too.

  • A refined, evolved user interface that is simple, beautiful and useful
  • Face Unlock: use state-of-the-art facial recognition technology to unlock your phone with a smile
  • Redesigned camera which introduces panorama mode, effects like silly faces and background replacement, and a powerful photo editor
  • Android Beam™: quickly share web pages, apps, contacts and YouTube™ videos with your friends by simply tapping two Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled phones together
  • Web browser now lets you sync Google Chrome™ bookmarks, request full desktop versions of sites, see your open tabs in a new layout and even store web pages for offline reading
  • People: browse friends, family and coworkers, see their photos in high-resolution and check their latest status updates from Google+
  • Improved keyboard with incredibly accurate typing, an inline spell checker and improved copy and paste support
  • New Calendar app that lets you add events quickly, sync with Google Calendar™ or Microsoft Exchange and even pinch to adjust your calendar display
  • Redesigned Gmail™ app that now lets you swipe between conversations to catch up quickly, and search for emails even without a data connection
  • Google+ integration that lets you hangout and video chat with up to 10 friends using your front-facing camera

Kinda interesting that Android Beam is listed. Since that requires NFC and, to the best of my knowledge, it doesn’t have an NFC chip. This is most likely added in as a standard part of the software to make updating devices with NFC to ICS a bit easier for them. They could have left that part out of this update though.

Anywho, check for the update and let us know how it goes.

Time for an update. I am the proud father of three, 2, 8, and 11. I finally just moved up from the Samsung Vibrant to the Samsung Galaxy S III...... Let me tell you, it is mind blowing. I love Android, I love tech and I love my family. Not in that order though. I work to hard, play even harder and take care of all that are around me when I can.

I’m still waiting for the ICS update that was promised for the Evo 3D. Any new word on that?
