So I wonder how many Android fanboys have screamed and yelled at their computers, and/or phones today when they saw the news about the enhanced Google search coming to iOS. I will admit, my mouth dropped when I saw the YouTube video. After Google Now has come from our beloved new batch of Android awesomeness, Jelly Bean, we see a similar Google search rocking on an iPhone. First thing I thought was someone ported it over to a hacked iPhone. Sadly, I hear that it was not, and that iOS users were going to be getting this enhanced Google search before many Android users.
Soon to be available in the iOS app store later this week, this Google search has the same look, and voice as Google Now. You say a command, and that familiar voice talks back retrieving the information you have asked for. Is your heart broken yet? We have our answer from Google though. Google has stressed the fact that it is not the same as Google Now, simply because the answers do not come back in cards. That is it? The cards? Anyone that has used Google Now knows that you only get a small amount of cards. I only use 3 cards myself. Weather, traffic, and sports scores. Now I am not saying the cards are not nice and pretty to look at, but if that is the only difference between Google Now and this new Google search for iOS, that is just no good. Guess Apple saw all the videos of SIRI getting her digital rear-end handed to her, and needed something better.
Check out the video below and let us know what you think. For those of you that want a Google Now like app, just switch to the iPhone. I am kidding of course, but try not to weep to hard when you watch the video.

Did you notice in the description below the video it says: “Google Search App for iOS and Android”
But it’s not available for Android?
Is it an app or an update? If it is an app, how do I go about finding it for my SGS3?
I’m confused. They dropped YouTube and now this…patents and what not. Some kind of sick relationship

Its better than siri on its own device hahaha..
This is a joke. IOS users will have it while most Android users don’t and won’t for quite some time seeing as Google allows manufacturers and carriers screw Android users over.
When Google starts favoring iPhone users over Android users it might be time to switch. Google better upgrade ALL Android users to this new search when they make it available to IOS.
That sounds like Siri rip off a la Google… that s awesome… that means more Google presence in iOS… hooray!!
David, David, David… This is shameful fanboy nonsense.
Whats worse is that it fails to mention the really important aspects.
Google is NOT a fanboy. They are a company out to make a profit and the huge number of iPhone users helps attain that goal.
The most important aspect however is the fact that this is NOT GOOGLE NOW. If you think that the voice assistant in Google Now is the actual important part, then I can tell you that you have not spent much time with it. Google Analytic built right into the service is the big deal. The fact that you phone LEARNS about the things you need to know and when you need to know them, all without you programming a SINGLE thing is what makes this platform special. So yes, the cards are an extremely important aspect. More cards will come and 3rd party cards will come with them.
Imagine your phone starts to realize that you go to the movie every weekend, so it starts showing you different movies available during the weekend, with greater frequency when you are in the vicinity of a theater. Then it starts to realize the types of movies you are interested in, and starts narrowing the field for the movies it shows you. This is a silly example, but it is something you can expect to see from a Moviephone Card in Google Now.
None of this is on the iPhone app.
All of this and you also seem to fail to understand the Trojan Horse aspect of this app for iOS. If the voice search works at anywhere near the speed of what is shown in the video, then it will give a lot of casual iphone owns reason for pause, when looking at SIRI and Apple as a whole.
That still doesn’t explain why IOS will have a better Google search then actual Google/Android customers. Everyone understands the business aspect of Google’s decision, BUT… I and many others personally know iPhone users that were so impressed with Google Now and Google’s new search that they were prepared to make the switch. What reason do they have to switch now???? They’re pretty much guaranteed to get the new Google search on IOS where as at this point in time they aren’t guaranteed to get it with Android. I can buy a brand spanking new Android phone today and not have Google Now or the new search for probably 6 months if its dependent on Jellybean..
You didnt really read through my comment I guess.
iOS at present is NOT receiving Google Now, they are receiving Google voice search. These are two entirely seperate features.
Im guessing you also dont seem to grasp the model Google has been moving towards for the last few OS updates. New features tend to stay a “propriatery” features for the new OS until the next update, six months later. Google then removes the App as a core OS component and moves it to the market. I will assume that Google Now, just like Chrome will be an ICS and up feature application only.
My personal opinion is that Google does this to take advantage of the Public Beta approach they use so often. They know that early adopters are more likely to be the ones providing usable feedback on the software, than if it was released into the wild and available to all users, which would dilute valid feedback with 100x more useless complaints and perceived problems.
If you have an ICS phone then you can go and download Google Now right this moment, provided to you by the community, proving that it can serve as a stand alone app in the futures.
