Download: Google Play Store updates to 3.9.16, finally get rid of apps from the All Apps List

11

Google has just started rolling out an update to the Google Play Store. Moving it from version 3.8.17, which brought us the redeem option and a few other goodies, to version 3.9.16. That is nearly a whole build number update. That usually means a whole heck of a lot of changes that we all might really want.

Obviously the first thing you notice is the jump in build numbers. One thing that is apparent though, is the ability to start clearing out the All Apps history from your account and device. I know this is a major annoyance to many. I sat down one night trying to remember the name of an app I used to have and scrolled through over 2000 apps in that list. Still couldn’t remember  but the fact that I have over 2000 apps in the list was enough to drive me crazy. You can clean them out one by one, or you can long press on them and tap as many as you want. Pretty darn cool. Check it out in the screenshots.

We haven’t spent a whole lot of time looking for to many other new features, but we did notice the APK is smaller than the last one, coming in at 5.22 MBs instead of 5.38. So Google must have cleaned out some stuff too. What I still don’t see is a way to bookmark apps or save them to buy later. That was one thing that was on its way around the same time as the Google Gift Cards.

For all of you that like to have the latest and greatest and not wait for it to magically appear on your device, you can snag the APK below. Just install it like any other 3rd party APK and you are off to the races. Be sure to chime in and let us know what you find in the new Play Store that the previous one didn’t have.

Thank you Marcos!

Time for an update. I am the proud father of three, 2, 8, and 11. I finally just moved up from the Samsung Vibrant to the Samsung Galaxy S III...... Let me tell you, it is mind blowing. I love Android, I love tech and I love my family. Not in that order though. I work to hard, play even harder and take care of all that are around me when I can.

Wow ty. How about making all the purchased apps at the top of the all app list? After some time you tend to forget some of your purchased apps…

Yeah, I really miss the old days, when the bought – but not installed – apps were simply at the bottom.

Since they’re really into sliding between tabs nowadays, the tabs should’ve had these titles: “installed”, “bought”, “watch list”, “history”.

“Installed” should be all apps currently installed, just as today.
“Bought” would be all apps you’ve ever paid for, both installed and not installed, listed with both the individual price and the overall total amount you’ve spent on apps
“Watch list” would be a list where you convienently could add interesting apps, which you just don’t need right now. For when you find a fuel consumption app, and think “whoho, this app will be useful next year, when I hopefully have my own car”, or a subway map for the city you’re visiting the next summer, or if you discover a nice 50 MB game using 3G while camping in the middle of nowhere, but want to wait downloading it until you’re back at your wifi.
“History” would simply list all apps you’ve ever had installed, but no longer have. All of us have been looking to rediscover something we barely used a couple of months ago, with varying results. The need to clean up the “history” would be less if this tab is to the outer right, and only used in such situations.

Too bad Google really doesn’t have an easy way to give feedback and suggestions to them.

  5. It really worksd, the remove app function, but I have a doubt… I could not multiselect apps for removal from the all list. I tried long press and nothing. Anything I’m doing wrong? I’m on a LG Optimus Hub, CM7
